Uncle

[edit]

Hello - I appreciate your comments regarding Phil Douglas. He was my great uncle and was a study.

Many things have been written about him. In 1979, Tom Clark wrote " One Last Round for the Shuffler " 153 pages of his career.

Tom Clark failed to mention that Phil Douglas :

 1. Was the first pitcher, to throw a ball, recorded via radio of a world series game.
 2. Was the first pitcher, to throw a ball, of a subway series

This was the 1921 Gaints/ Yankee world series plus he held the honor of being the pitcher that allowed Ruth to hit his first world series home run. I am sure that Phil had mixed emotions off of that honor.
The Boston/ Giants world series of 1918 put him as the last pitcher to face Ruth ( as a pitcher ). This was in the 8th inning as Ruth went to the Yankees the next spring in the outfield. Sam Stewart, Anniston, Alabama
