Possible improvements
[edit]Good work on this article so far. I've done some minor formatting tweaks so that it is a little bit more MOS compliant. I have the following suggestions for improvement:
- References: each paragraph needs an in-line citation, even if it is just a duplication of one previously used. The WP:NAMEDREFS system has been included now, so you only need to use the <ref name=NAME/> format to re-cite (substituting NAME for the name that has been established earlier;
- Supporting materials: an image of the subject would help improve the article;
- Coverage:
- (1) the lead/introductory section needs to be expanded to summarise the subject's full career. As it stands it does not mention anything more than First World War service, which although that is what he is most notable for, he also went on to be an Air Commodore which is reasonably high and notable also;
- (2) Expand the Inter war years, Second World War and Post military life sections in order to provide some more details of the subject's life and service;
- Style: Possibly link the citations for awards to the original London Gazette citations, rather than www.theaerdrome.com. They can be found by searching here. I would suggest possibly not reproducing the full citations either, as I think style wise that is very similar to the www.theaerodrome.com article and also I'm not sure that it is encyclopedic to do so. That's just my opinion, though, and I know other people don't agree with that, so it is certainly nothing more than a suggestion.
Anyway, I hope this helps. — AustralianRupert (talk) 04:03, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Date of birth
[edit]There seems to be some confusion regarding the date of birth. The "rafweb" source gives 27 May 1897, whereas the "theaerodrome" source says 27 June 1897. The article says 27 June 1897 in the lead, but 26 July 1897 in the second paragraph. Which is correct? --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:32, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- When he died his date of birth was given as 27 May 1897 according to the General Register Office Death Index. MilborneOne (talk) 20:21, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- I have changed the date to the 27 May per above and also changed the place of birth from Hatfield north London to Wimbledon in south London. Both the 1901 and 1911 Census show he was born in Wimbledon and his birth was registered in the Kingston registration district of Surrey. MilborneOne (talk) 20:34, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
