Comment

[edit]

The 3rd paragraph seems like an advertisement and doesn't add anything to the article. 98.140.186.207 (talk) 16:17, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: The article has been somewhat changed in the 8 years since this comment and it may no longer be valid. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) 06:52, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cruelty?

[edit]

I recommend you raise the question of whether or not pig racing is cruel. It's hard to imagine the pigs not being completely stressed out by the shouting. I don't know much about the treatment of the pigs but the practice seems inherently inhumane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.7.48.228 (talk) 07:56, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The shouting comment would need sourcing. The indication some are concerned about some aspects of pig racing are now present in the article, albeit in a specific context but perhaps enough to think on this aspect if they want to. More would require sourcing aand not giving WP:UNDUE weight to any part of the article and not disrupting the article. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) 06:56, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

International pig olympics

[edit]

I am of the opinion that while this should probable be in the article it is now likely in a WP:UNDUE position in the lede rather than in the body; the lede being a summary of the body. A section in the body under say "International" may be more appropriate. Pragmatically I can see some animal rights groups being concerned about some of the events in the Pig Olympics reference. Its also from 2006, their evidently being 2004 and 2005 events, but it is unclear if there have been any since. My main concern is however if it has WP:UNDUE weight in the lede. ( I realise this is part of an assignment, see above, and very well done in finding the information. Often I'd have just weighed in shovelled stuff about myself but I'll approach via talk as its an educational assignment. Please be aware I am infamous for writing utter incomprehensible dribble and nonsense). Thenkyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 11:08, 22 May 2020 (UTC) I've decided to move it from lede, probably ought to have improved the statement about competitors beening used for breeding rather than slaughtered for food consumption.  Done Djm-leighpark (talk) 19:47, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Type of English

[edit]

I'm currently making some small copy edits to the article, and I'm realizing that it seems to switch back and forth between American and British English (for example, both "practiced" and "practised" are used). I'd like to switch to one type to make the article easier to read. My bias is American English, since that's what I find easier to write in, but the article appears to lean toward British. Another opinion here would be great. Thanks, Pupsterlove02 talkcontribs 18:37, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I use a variant of Pompey English with various dialects thrown in, and I cant spell or grammar anyway. There's no Template:Use XXX english so I think the defaults American. There is a person, seemingly based in Aussie, doing an educational assignment on this currently. But from my viewpoint go ahead, this article is now international but started in the states until I seen pig racing on Bargain Hunt.Djm-leighpark (talk) 19:18, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Djm-leighpark: I think I'll stick to British English anyways, as there's less to change for that to fit and it's closer to the Australian dialect of the student. Grammarly should be sufficient to help me out here, but if you or anyone else catches anything, please correct it. Pupsterlove02 talkcontribs 20:47, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Headers

[edit]

Hello, me again. I'm considering consolidating all of the headers naming countries and also International under one header to make navigation slightly easier. The best top-level header I can come up with is "In various countries", and I'm looking for similar situations in other articles as well. Recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Pupsterlove02 talkcontribs 20:17, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd personnally refactor to put all the countries under a simple heading labelled "Countries" and leave "International" as is. Leaves a reasonable number of top level headings. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:38, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
