Is this really neutral?

In the United Kingdom, the "Christian Power Cards" game was introduced in 1999 in response to these claims of Pokémon to be Satanic, the game being similar to the Pokémon TCG but using Biblical figures.

This line from the article, and it's source on BBC news seems a little more slanted than I feel comfortable with. I would like to hear feedback about this from more experienced editors and maintainers since I really only pitch in occasionally when I feel there's something that doesn't fit. To me, the source article sounds a bit too slanted. Could we perhaps find a less biased source? I know I seem bold by challenging a source like BBC but then again I've always been hypercritical of the media's NPOV. Darkmaster2004 (talk) 12:09, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for bringing this up, Darkmaster. I think the BBC story is a good reference, but I agree with you that the sentence in which the BBC article is referenced should be rewritten. After reading the BBC article, I noticed Mr. Tate doesn't say anything about Pokémon being Satanic, he simply wanted an alternative game for his students to get excited about. So, as a Sunday school teacher, he chose to create a Bible-themed card game.
Before I rewrite the sentence, I should ask: exactly what about the BBC article you feel is slanted? -Sesu Prime (talk) 13:21, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm not quite 100% sure exactly what it is that bothers me about the article..I think how the article opens up makes it seem like the writer isn't covering something that he/she should...but I dont know what. The article itself is ok but I wonder what they omitted? An additional reference might be handy here but I couldn't find anything I'd deem reputable enough. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places? Anyhow, I think my main issue is how that line in the wiki article says 'Satanic' when there's no mention of such in the BBC article.
To be honest, I'm starting to doubt the neutrality of the whole 'Morality' section of the article because I saw a reference to epinions, [26], which is...an opinion site.

--Darkmaster2004 (talk) 13:54, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Wow. I just read through all the references in the "Morality" section, and I agree the whole section needs to be rewritten, complete with some new references. Some of the references are okay, but others are questionable, especially the epinions.com one. Thanks for bringing this issue front and center, Darkmaster. -Sesu Prime (talk) 15:36, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I went ahead and tagged the section with the Template:Unbalanced tag so we can get that section worked on.--Darkmaster2004 (talk) 22:16, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Well someone did remove the dubious reference from the article and yanked the tag without taking a gander here...Ah well..as they say: "So Fix it!" (I didnt just slap the tag back on, I just removed that reference to pokemon being satanic)
And I did --Darkmaster2004 (talk) 09:34, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Apologies for not responding here first. In any case, I agree with your removal, as the line seemed like original research as nothing about the Satanicity of Pokémon was mentioned in the article. Artichoker[talk] 17:03, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

rrrrrrrrrrRrRrRrRrRRRRRRrRRRRAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! WHOEVER MADE THAT BOGUS UP SHOULD TAKE THAT BACK! RRAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Plus, I'm nearly 10 and I call myself a PokéManiac.Arceus493 (talk) 23:24, 8 July 2009 (UTC)HGvs.SS

I'm guessing you're referring to the vandalism I just removed. I changed it back to the far more relevant text that was there before. --Evice (talk) 23:41, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think ("In the United Kingdom, the "Christian Power Cards" game was introduced in 1999 by David Tate who stated, "Some people aren't happy with Pokémon and want an alternative, others just want Christian games." The game was similar to the Pokémon TCG but used Biblical figures.") is even notable enough to be in the article, never-mind neutrality there. 72.152.36.78 (talk) 15:12, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

I've reread the section and it still seems to be a bit shy of having a neutral point of view, but the citations look a little better now. I think we should add at the end of the section: "Although many claims have been made by various groups, attacking the morality of Pokemon, none have really been proven to be caused by any malicious or immoral intent by Nintendo, Pokemon USA or any other companies affiliated with distributing and selling Pokemon merchandise." <insert some good citations here>

I haven't really added that because I wanted to float it by people here and ask for some help looking for citations to support that statement.--

Please change "pokédick" to "pokémon"... and "penis basher" to "pikachu"

Jokes like this are messed up. Kids read this page. Gojiracuda (talk) 14:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

ClueBot had gotten that by the time you posted the editrequest. -Jeremy (v^_^v Cardmaker) 14:16, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

from what i can see, the page claims there are 493 pokemon while there are 649 because pokemon black and white is released. since the page is protected, i can`t fix that as the page is protected. if anyone can change that, please do —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theninwii (talkcontribs) 19:00, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Live Action Movie?

No idea how legit this website is that is claiming this but it is Interesting. It is either a Viral fake or legit leak... Its been Foating around my Facebook crew all morning. I leave it here for people to evaluate the reliability of "shogungamer.com" BB7 (talk) 12:47, 16 September 2010 (UTC) http://www.shogungamer.com/news/live-action-gritty-pokemon-movie-trailer-leaked-shogun-gamer-exclusive

The trailer is almost certainly fake. On the miniscule chance that it isn't, we'd need confirmation from Nintendo or the studio before adding it to the article. Melicans (talk, contributions) 15:45, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
That was my inclination as well, I had no idea if "shogungamer.com" was reliable enough to make such a claim. thus I put it here for thoughts and comments rather than putting a ridiculous statement about a leaked trailer in the article. BB7 (talk) 18:32, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the link, BB7. Interesting to see. I'd say it's fake, but well made nonetheless. As for including it in the article: what Melicans said. Cheers, theFace 17:58, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah, there it is! [1] That made me laugh. - theFace 12:23, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Number of Pokemon

In regards to the intro: With the addition of Pokemon Black and White, there are now 649 Pokemon, not 493. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.74.233.118 (talk) 22:58, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Because there hasn't been an official source that says there are that many Pokemon. Blake (Talk·Edits) 01:12, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually we can go with that number: people hacked the game to find out how many, and gutted the sprites from it. It shouldn't need a reference I'd think.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 04:20, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh, ok. I just didn't think we could use people hacking the game as a reference... Blake (Talk·Edits) 12:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Sure, its all there after all. I think the lead, or at least somewhere in the article though, should mention that several of them have NOT been acknowledged by nintendo..A bizarre situation, which is why I think it should be up. These pokemon are Keldeo (647), Meloetta(648) and Genesect(649) 74.132.249.206 (talk) 02:12, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect do exist but only cause people were able to find a way to glitch the game to get them there was a video on youtube that gave you the 3 as shiny and they unlocked an event in the game. But even though the fans know of their existence Nintendo has yet to acknowledge it in both the US and Japan so until they do there's only 646 Pokemon. JamesAlan1986 12:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

In case anyone is wonder this here is the glitch I'm talking about. JamesAlan1986 12:38, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Similar discssion at Talk:List of Pokémon (599–646)#Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect. The articles should keep consistent. One article should not say 649, whereas the other says 646. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 18:21, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Pronunciation

I have a strong objection to the pronunciation at the start of the article. It's extremely NA-centric and I don't personally know anyone who pronounces it like that. Could someone who knows how to do it add an English pronunciation using a short O sound in the last syllable? I mean in addition to the North American pronunciation of course.eyeball226 (talk) 00:34, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, JC Wells's Longman Pronunciation Dictionary gives: ˈpəʊk.ɪ.mɒn for British English. This one is the most widdely used pronunciation according to the dictionary but three other pronunciations for British English are:
ˈpɒk.ɪ.mɒn;
ˈpəʊk..mɒn;
ˈpəʊk.e.mɒn.

Problem in the very top section

"the 649 fictional species that have made appearances in Pokémon media as of the release of the Pokémon role-playing game (RPG) for the Nintendo DS, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver." This should be "... Black and White", shouldn't it? 71.184.241.68 (talk) 22:53, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes, but impatient people don't watch what they are doing. Blake (Talk·Edits) 23:02, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Bloodsport

I was gonna add that besides insect collecting it also drains inspiration from bloodsports like dogfighting, but got a little scared with the block warnings. So instead i'm coming to the talk page and asking you to reach a consensus on whether or not to apply that change please. --TiagoTiago (talk) 07:22, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Without reliable sources making the comparison, it doesn't belong in the article. It's an original analyst based on someone's negative point of view. —Farix (t | c) 11:23, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Pokémon may resemble bloodsport, but I doubt it was inspired by it. In one of his few interviews, Satoshi Tajiri emphasized that it were the unique characteristics of insects and the places they inhabited which fascinated him. He denied that he ever pitted them ("but sometimes they would eat each other"). Later in the interview, Tajiri was also asked how he felt about the worries that Pokémon's violence may influence children. He answered: "I'm very careful about violence in games. I'm not interested in creating violent effects." While there were plenty of worries regarding Pokémon during its heyday, I can't recall that animal cruelty was one of them. Well, except this, written by someone who may very well be an animal rights extremist. - theFace 18:03, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Torchic is supposedly based on Cockfights, but I don't think the whole series is. Unless you have a source, it isn't going in the article. Blake (Talk·Edits) 19:37, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
"Torchic is supposedly based on Cockfights". Yeah... perhaps. At least it's name is. Torchic's original Japanese name is アチャモ or Achamo, a contraction of 赤子 or akago ("baby"), and 軍鶏 or shamo ("fighter"). The latter is a breed of chicken, used in Japanese cockfights for centuries. Cheers, theFace 22:07, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

The world of Pokemon is based on Japanese culture.

The world of Pokémon is based on Japanese culture but various other cultures are also added and mixed.

Incorrect Description

In the first picture in the article, the description states that the Bulbasaur and Charmander are in Pokemon Red and Blue, however that screenshot is from Pokemon Yellow as they are coloured. Pokemon Red and Blue were not coloured, while Yellow is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.81.231.109 (talk) 16:12, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

I think if you played the games on a GameBoy color, they were colored. Blake (Talk·Edits) 16:44, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Even the Super Game Boy didn't display this many colours if the game if the game did not specifically support it. I played Pokemon Red on Super Game Boy, and it never looked this good. Still, four colours with the cartridge in the Super Game Boy or Game Boy Color was better than the monochrome of the regular Game Boy. -- ianiceboy (talk) 12:56, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Those colors are within the capacity of the original Red and Blue versions. Charmander's front-sprite is still that of his Red/Blue sprite rather than the updated Yellow-sprite. Jackal Killer (talk) 04:53, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

It does seem that the sprite is from Yellow owing to the colour. Can a non-colour illustration be used, as it's potentially misleading. Else, use a colour pic from Yellow (or later). 90.193.99.108 (talk) 15:25, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

It is not misleading. Red and Blue had color imaging if used on anything but the classic GameBoy. Just because some people seem to have missed this fact does not mean we will change the image, or even elaborate that it is being played on a GBC. It's not that important. Blake (Talk·Edits) 15:41, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
To be fair, these are screen shots from red and either red or blue (I dont know) from the supergameboy: http://i.neoseeker.com/screenshots/R2FtZXMvR2FtZWJveV9Db2xvci9Sb2xlLVBsYXlpbmcvRmFudGFzeQ==/pokemon_red_image2.jpg http://www.proneblock.com/pics/pokemonrb4.jpg 74.132.249.206 (talk) 20:11, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Edit request from Yodudewazzup, 11 March 2011

{{edit semi-protected}} pokemon consist of various attacks and deffenses. most common pojkemon can "evolve" into a more sophisticated version of itself wich gives it more attacks and health and/or power. Yodudewazzup (talk) 17:13, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm fairly certain that the article already mentions that. If you'd like any further help, contact me on my user talk page. You might instead want to put a {{help me}} template up on your own user talk, or put the {{edit semi-protected}} template back up on this page and either way someone will be along to help you. :) Banaticus (talk) 08:09, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Revert request

Latest change needs a revert, as a swastika isn't a "traditionally Buddhist symbol with no negative connotations" (ha!) It was absolutely fine, and accurate, with manji. Sammy680 (talk) 18:57, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Did you mean this edit? If so and you can not yet edit semi-protected pages yet feel free to use {{Edit semi-protected}} to make your request. I however will decline your request so you can wait while getting your edit count up or get someone else to do it. – Allen4names 02:46, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
I do agree with Sammy680 that it is strange to describe a swastika as a symbol with no negative connotations. This is obviously false. It's wishful thinking, I guess. Cheers, theFace 15:54, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Where's Game Freak?

There isn't a single mention of Game Freak anywhere on this article. I tried adding it, but the page is protected or something and my edits are being automatically reverted. 76.20.107.40 (talk) 19:54, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Both Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior and Pokémon: Acreus and the Jewel of Life have been released as mangas and I referenced the Amazon.com pages as proof of their existence. JamesAlan1986 (talk) 17:28, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Melicans, would Mewtwo Returns qualify as a made-for-TV film? I'm not exactly the expert on Pokemon, but I thought that should be asked, with regard to whether or not it should be listed as a film in the Article. The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 02:22, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
