Commentary
[edit]Esentially the breeds of the polo pony may vary greatly from country to country where the game is played. The size limits is a requirement of the game regulations, to ensure safety of the horses and the players.
What is more important is the physical and behavioural characteristics of the pony or horse. Though many of the best ponies are of Argentinian Criollo origin, Australian Stockhorses, and other cattle horse breeds have performed just as well.
The horse needs to be fast, agile, and not easily startled, as there will be sticks swinging and balls flying all over during the game. The horse also needs to be able to handle being in close contact with other horses and not get agitated due to the nature of the game. Being able to start and get to full gallop and stop again repeatedly all in a matter of seconds.

- I imagine because, as mentioned above, a polo pony is no particular breed. Wi2g 22:33, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Heh, Wi2g, note the date of that comment above... we usually let threads over 3 years old die a natural death (grin). Montanabw(talk) 23:51, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oops...(grin) Anyway, I worked on the article a bit. Was the text above "Categories" here removed from it? Wi2g 00:04, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- No clue. I added a header so a TOC will eventually generate. Probably makes sense to just archive this old stuff. Montanabw(talk) 00:17, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
