distance and vertical distance

[edit]

I believe it is inappropriate to use vertical and horizontal distance as a factor in discussing cost of aerial tramway because when distance is increased, only the length of the cable is increased - of which the cost would be inconsequential. SYSS Mouse (talk) 03:20, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First, this is not at all true. A longer tramway needs stronger and, in many cases, higher supports; higher forces (i.e. weights and structures) for tensioning or more support towers; more electrical power for driving; maybe (depending on the length) enhanced safety features, e.g. for evacuation; etc.etc.
Second, as far as I can see, the distances you mention are not used in the sections on cost.
