[edit]What was his exact relationship to the Dulles's? Given that their father was a Dulles and their mother a Foster, I assume Lansing must have been an uncle by marriage. But was he married to a sister of Mr. Dulles, or to a sister of Mrs. Dulles, née Foster? john k 19:22, 29 March 2007
- Lansing was married to a sister of the Dulles' mother. Robert Lansing married Eleanor Foster, daughter of Secretary of State John W. Foster.[1] Eleanor (Foster) Lansing's sister Edith, who married the Reverend Allen Macy Dulles, was the mother of John Foster Dulles and Avery Dulles[2]. "In addition, Lansing was the first cabinet member to suggest that Vice President Thomas R. Marshall assume the powers of the presidency."
Just a thought, that the above sentence is somewhat misleading. Does it mean that within Wilson's cabinet, Lansing was the first cabinet member to suggest Marshall should assume the powers of the president (and others suggested it also, but he was the first)? Or does it mean, Lansing was the first cabinet member in history to suggest a vice president assume the president's powers?Trucker11 (talk) 20:11, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
