Britannias?

[edit]

We have two Britannias listed at the moment, from a recent visit I am fairly sure that there is no Britannia inside, it is most likely the aircraft displayed outside, its history given on the website says that it was repainted from BOAC to RAF colours. Its all looking much better now anyway, cheers. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 11:51, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will remove the inside one! I think i added it to Hangar 1 because it is in the Transport and Training Collection, a quick images google shows it outside, i think you would notice it if was inside! MilborneOne (talk) 12:23, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I have a short memory span! The biggies in there I remember are the Comet and Argosy with the Andover in the middle, I did see the BA collection while I was on a course there in 97, shame that they had to be scrapped. Will look at the co-ords, not done that process before. I have got a photo of the Britannia but the section is not big enough for it, might bung it in the history section on the left. Co-ord

[edit]

Just a note we still have the co-ords for Hendon! MilborneOne (talk) 12:36, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed using my pilot navigational skills and Google Earth!! Checked that I got it right. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 12:56, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cosford is at 52.645,-2.3175 from Google maps... Although that isnt the front door. The point currently given is in a field not very close by. Where is the entrance to the campus? Midgley (talk) 14:25, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

British Airways collection?

[edit]

Currently British Airways Museum redirects to British Airways, I can't see any mention of it there, perhaps it should redirect here instead? It says 'several' of the jets were broken up, were some saved and moved? Perhaps the Britannia was part of it? It's coming together. The British Airways Museum is at Heathrow! but the collection that was here may be worth a mention. MilborneOne (talk) 17:18, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have a section on it that could be linked to? I've got Ellis Wrecks and Relics but it is 2004, two years before the scrapping, seems to have been a BAC 1-11 with the others at that time. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 17:26, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Must be this [1], The British Airways Heritage Collection, no aircraft though it appears. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 17:35, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MBCC

[edit]

I have added a section on the conservation centre as I had some images from a visit in 2003. It could do with a bit more text. File:MichaelBeethamConservation-01.jpg has a large engine in the foreground - any ideas! if we can identify it we could use the image in the related engine article! Looks like a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 to me, I did not see it on display a couple of weeks ago, maybe they installed it in something or it is still in there, will do some more digging. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 20:24, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, it is an R-1830-92 Twin Wasp, currently in storage at Stafford, there is another one on display in Hangar 1, I have photos of that engine. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 21:32, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sponsoring department

[edit]

The RAF Museum at Cosford is not sponsored by the Department of Culture Media and Sport as stated in the main article, but by the Ministry of Defence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.37.146.64 (talk) 18:57, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Free

[edit]

I thought it worth inserting that the museum is free to enter (and excellent to visit, in my opinion!). PhilUK (talk) 20:17, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
