Yahoo Music review inaccurate

The wikipedia entry references a Yahoo Music review of the video which states inaccuracies. The review mentions that the video borrows from both Tina Turner's 1979 film Mad Max. However, Tina Turned did not appear in the 1979 film, she appeared in the third film of the series, "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" which was released in 1985. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kheperi (talkcontribs) 19:11, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Run the World (Girls) - Critical Reception

Rolling Stone reviews Run The World (Girls): "From "Independent Women" to "Single Ladies," girl power has long been Beyoncé's Topic A, and "Run the World (Girls)" is a blistering return to the theme. She forsakes fashionable sounds — no Eurodisco synths! — to belt over Diplo and Switch's ferocious dancehall beat. The message is party-hearty feminism. But with Gaga, Britney, Katy, Rihanna and Taylor all vying to be the queen of pop, you can bet B isn't looking to share the throne." http://www.rollingstone.com/music/songreviews/run-the-world-girls-20110427 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.242.79.223 (talk) 12:56, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Video Premiere

Reports are that the video will premiere this Wednesday 18th May on American Idol. http://thatgrapejuice.net/2011/05/beyonce-run-worldgirls-visual-premiere/#more-35795 calvin999 (talk) 17:50, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

That is true, i have seen the tweet, official pic and email. But they are all unreliable and it could all be a joke for all we know. Until we get official word, or source, than we can not include it. YET! But i am hopeful :D Theuhohreo (talk) 18:11, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
haha. The Season 10 American Idol page has added Beyonce - Run The World (Girls) Music Video as one of the performances that night, using the source I gave above. If it can be used in that article then it can be used in this article? I don't think they would lie about or make it up this close to it? calvin999 (talk) 19:03, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Than that edit needs to be undone. "thatgrapejuice" is definitely not reliable, and unfortunately neither is twitter. Until something more resourceful comes by, we'll need to wait it off. Rumor also has it that Bey will perform the song on Oprahs final show with 60 dancers, but the ref is not 100% reliable, so we can not include it... Is it just me, or is the Bey-world getting exciting :D Theuhohreo (talk) 20:20, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
haha yes it is getting exiting. It wasn't me that did the AI Season 10 thing I said about btw lol, I just checked to see if someone had added it or not lol. calvin999 (talk) 21:30, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Neither "That Grape Juice" nor "Twitter" is reliable. You know a lot about vocals range. You should also get to know more about the reliability of sources. Jivesh Talk2Me 15:34, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
I am not talking about Vocal Range here. If you want to chime in, why don't you remove the "thatgrapejuice" source from the American Idol Season Ten Results show performance section which someone put there and write in bold italics to that person instead?? And by the way, just because it is a source, doesn't mean it is right. People were writing on the Leona Lewis article that she had done a song with David Guetta from source which were just assuming that she had, which turned out to be untrue when Guetta said they in fact hadn't done a song. calvin999 (talk) 18:04, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Does Billboard.com constitute a viable source? http://www.billboard.com/news/beyonce-s-run-the-world-girls-video-to-premiere-1005187132.story#/news/beyonce-s-run-the-world-girls-video-to-premiere-1005187132.story calvin999 (talk) 19:57, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

The news of the videos premiere has broken on many reliable websites including Rap-Up, MTV News, VH1, Billboard, etc... Twitter & ThatGrapeJuice are not reliable (as stated above, twice). We already have the news included in the article, so to avoid a future internet-fight, this discussion is official  Done

My dear Calvin, you see yourself how you reacted when i wrote something which you did not like. I could have reacted the same way when you said that the one who wrote the article "Radio" is stupid and that he knows nothing about vocals range. Jivesh Talk2Me 04:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Well you should have thought about that before you wrote your response in the style that you did. What you wrote was extraneous anyway because someone had already informed me had twitter and thatgrapejuice are not reliable. Oh, and did you remove the thatgrapejuice source from the Season 10 AI page? That would have been more constructive. calvin999 (talk) 11:09, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Diplo?

"Diplo, who serves as Switch's partner in Major Lazer, is not credited on the song." This source has been misinterpreted to imply that Diplo helped produce the track, but all they are saying is that Switch helped produce the track using a sample from a Major Lazer (which is Diplo+Switch project) WITHOUT help from Diplo... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.127.143.175 (talk) 19:26, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Dutch charts

Why is the Single Top 100 there. I keep changing to the Dutch Top 40, which is preferable, however a few days later is see that my edits are undone. Can someone explain why this is happening? Adabow (talk · contribs) 08:54, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Because you do not own this page. All I see is your name everywhere. This song was a BIG FLOP!!! I cannot believe this much has been written about this song,I mean,I have read biographies about famous people on Wikipedia that are shorter than this whole page about this song. I think I am going to remove a lot of things from this article to shorten it down.--99.177.248.92 (talk) 23:35, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Also you say-"Why is the Single Top 100 there. I keep changing to the Dutch Top 40, which is preferable." What, preferable to you? Or because it charted higher on the Dutch chart? Sorry, the Dutch chart isn't going to happen,I don't care how much you prefer it.--99.177.248.92 (talk) 23:38, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Ooook. Well, the Top 40 uses more comprehensive data than the Single Top 100. It is not my preference, but the community's consensus. See WP:GOODCHARTS: "The Single Top 100 is a component of the Dutch Top 40, and should be used only if the single did not chart on the Dutch Top 40.". —Andrewstalk 04:31, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Next Tuesday on Glee, the cast will be performing Beyoncé's anthem "Run The World (Girls)," but you can get an early listen to it now on http://gleethemusic.com. Tune in to Glee next Tuesday, October 4, at 8pm ET on FOX to watch it performed on the show.

Sidenote: The singer is one of Beyoncé's former back up dancers, Heather Morris, who's in the cast.

Copy-edit October 2011

I'm currently copy-editing this article; it's mostly well-written but the section "Composition" contains extensive song lyrics. You need to be careful here as it might be a copyright violation. I'll be checking the references to see if they contain those lyrics in analysis and if they don't I'll remove them - this could be seen as OR if editors have provided their own analyses. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:32, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Removed lyrics. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:57, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Can i put this line back:

Other lyrics of this theme include the line: "...smart enough to make these millions, strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business.

Replying to both comments: Thanks :-). I took most of the lyrics out because of copyvio concerns (see WP:NOT#LYRICS), and for ease of reading. If the lyrics are in the refs and important to the discussion of the song's theme, feel free to add them back and I won't remove them again. But we do need to be careful, especially if you're going for F.A. status. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 16:23, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I've done some more tonight. Sub-section 'Synopsis' is unreferenced and I've tagged it as such; sub-sec 'Music video' --> 'Reception' is long and unwieldy; you might want to slim it down a little; perhaps remove some of the reviews from less well-known websites. I didn't see any negative reviews; a balance you may like to redress. Cheers for now. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 23:19, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

No dab pages. Dead external links:

  • 78: "Latest Gold / Platinum Singles"
  • 94: "Chart Highlights: Dance, Alternative Songs & More"
  • 113: "Excuse Me Lady Gaga, Beyoncé's Back: 'Run The World (Girls)' Video Review" (leads to wrong page, I think)
  • This is a bit confusing; I think the same reference name ("yahoo") has been used for two different references. The dead one is called "Beyoncé's Billboard Music Awards Show Strikingly Similar To Year-Old Performance From Italian Singers", but it doesn't show up in the references at the bottom. Lampman (talk) 13:23, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Lampman (talk) 08:58, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Not much to complain about here, just some minor nit-picking:

Lead:

  • "The song samples of "Pon de Floor" by Major Lazer..." – should it be "contains samples"?
  • Well, I think you do not know much about the singer (I am not criticizing you... I am trying to explain with simply honest and pure intentions). See her discography. Although this song performed quite well, it remain a flop by her standard. Actually if flopped because it sampled "Pon de Floor" in its entirety. The latter only has music, no vocals etc. And Beyonce sang over the music. Hmm, you understand? And it is because of all this drama that the song was not well received. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:17, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I never mentioned anything about flops, it was really just a question of language: is it not better to say "The song contains samples of..." than "The song samples of..."? Lampman (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • Lol I know (Didn't you see what I wrote in brackets)? It does not contain samples (noun). It samples (verb) the whole song. Listen to Pon de Floor and Run the World. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 16:03, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I see, in that case I think it would be better to write ""Run the World" samples "Pon de Floor"" without using the word "of". Lampman (talk) 16:27, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Background and development:

  • You should probably make it clear that Nash and The-Dream is the same person, when it comes to the lists of writers/producers.

Chart performance:

  • More a question than a complaint: why did it chart so late in US compared to other markets?
  • Let me explain. If the charts of Billboard are released today, December 23, 2011... Billboard will published the charts saying Week ending January 5, 2012. Their charts are 13 days in advance. That's why I don't write a song debuted on a date... I have to say... For the week ending.... Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:17, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I understand. Lampman (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Music video:

  • "The Gaga thing" – he seems to be referring to his directing the "Bad Romance" video, but here it appears as a bit of a non sequitur.
  • Of course not. He is talking about "Run the World" but he mentioned "Bad Romance" as it is one of his greatest work. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:17, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • Yes, but in the interview this is clear. It says: "I hadn't done a video since 2009," he said, referring to the VMA-winning video for Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance."" Later in the interview, when he mentions "The Gaga thing", it is clear that this is what he's talking about. In the article there is no previous mention of "Bad Romance", so when he says "The Gaga thing", the reader has no idea what he's talking about. It should say something like: "director Francis Lawrence, who had previoulsy directed Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video, discussed the music video:" Lampman (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • It's on;y now I understand what you have been asking for since the beginning. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 16:07, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • "a barely sentient" – is he really using "sentient" as a noun here, or is there a noun missing?
  • That what the source says. And that's why I quote it. It is indeed awkward. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:17, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I believe the original source says: "Beyoncé comes off like a barely sentient but cohesive and rational human being in real life." This makes "sentient" the adjective and "human being" the noun. The way you've cut the quote, "sentient" appears as a noun, which totally changes the meaning of the quote. Lampman (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I'll remove "a", then I'm happy with it. Lampman (talk) 08:57, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Live performances:

  • "the Winfrey" – am I missing something here?
  • Hmm, I don't understand. It is simply a televised show. It is very famous. I mean it was since it finished now. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 15:17, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm familiar with Oprah, I'm just confused by "the Winfrey". It's not common to put a definite article before someone's name, unless it's something like Tha Carter? Lampman (talk) 15:59, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • Where did you see this? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 16:05, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Mixes Major Lazer and M.I.A. (Boyz) style in composition

Ive added this to composition:

Dallas Observer critic Shahryar Rizvi stated that the track "cribs a bit" from Major Lazer's "Pon de Floor" and M.I.A.'s track "Boyz", but that Knowles being a couple of years late in acquiring this sound was "a problem".[3] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.207.202.143 (talk) 16:30, 27 February 2012 (UTC) Also:

No consensus to split out the music video. AIRcorn (talk) 06:45, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

The article, which was written to the best of all Wikipedian standards, contains such a large bit of information. I bring up the subject of separating the articles accompanying music video section into it's own article as it contains such large amounts of information that would constitute it's own article! Much like the same fashion as We Found Love (music video). The video garnered multiple praise, recognition and accolades, enough to constitute its own article, and it would help "neaten" up the Run the World (Girls) article. Please leave your opinion below with a: Split/Agree for a consensus to split the article, or a Disagree with your opinion on why for the article to stay as-is.
