Can we get an image of Palladio's Villa La Rotonda onto this page, for people like User:Smack who can't read floorplans? It's a worthwhile comparison for the architecturally literate. Wetman 22:44, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

On second thought, it does look similar. I was just too hasty. ;) --Smack 03:05, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Too many images[edit]

Some of the images need to be moved to the Commons. They're crowding up the article, and not all of them are relevant. I'd suggest that we keep image:St Isaacs SPb.jpg and image:St Isaac Interior.jpg, make them larger (300px at least), and get the other four pictures out of here. --Smack (talk) 03:42, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly oppose the arbitrary choice of what pictures are to be kept. All of them are relevant, except the last one taken from Siege of Leningrad. --Ghirlandajo 09:16, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
They're all relevant; even the picture of the balloons has some merit. My complaint is that there are too many of them for such a short article. --Smack (talk) 03:31, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Link to Photosynth[edit]

I was wondering if it is acceptable to make an external link to a Photosynth page. I have uploaded a synth of the interior of St. Isaac's Cathedral and I think it is a relevant page to link to, but a browser plugin is needed to view the synth. --Adange (talk) 02:32, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

timeline[edit]

The articl on Peter the great says he wa smarried in this church, but this article sayst eh church was not built until after his death. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.100.248.162 (talk) 22:33, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bad writing[edit]

I removed a lot of inappropriate text from the article, including the "severe" and "somewhat top-heavy" exterior, "riotously rich" interior, "massive", "enormous", "an army of". None of this is quantitative and neutral writing and as such is inappropriate for an encyclopedia article. Johnbod undid this change for no apparent reason. I have restored it. — Hex (❝?!❞) 11:54, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked at the wording, and it is not bad writing and is, moreover, entirely acceptable language to use for a description of a work of architecture. However, opinions need to be sourced and that material was not. If there are architectural critiques of the structure that describe it in this way, then this would be valid content. Church or museum?[edit]

The article is confusing as to whether it is back to being a church or not. On one hand, it says that the museum was removed after the fall of communism, but then it says that "as of 2012, it is still a museum." Which is it? 108.254.160.23 (talk) 00:55, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is a church in a sense it is consecrated and used for service. During the time when there is no service, it is a museum with payment fee. The Foucault pendulum and (some) dedicated exhibitions were removed indeed. --Ymblanter (talk) 09:36, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article refers to the cathedral as a 'basilica', both of those words have specific meaning in Roman Catholicism, do they have in Orthodox? If so I assume this is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Metropolitan - IE a Cathedral. But what is an Orthodox basilca? That term is used in architecture too but a glance at the plan shows it's not a basilica in the architectural sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.240.242.225 (talk) 18:56, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It has a horizontal axis and a linear plan with a central nave and side aisles, so it is, architecturally, a basilica. Tiptoethrutheminefield (talk) 02:20, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Strange unanimity[edit]

. In 2017, the Governor of Saint Petersburg offered to transfer the cathedral back to the Russian Orthodox Church, but this was not accomplished due to the protests of St Petersburg citizens opposing the offer.. All of them?. --2deseptiembre (talk) 19:35, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
