It will be good if the article can be developed for it is likely that in history Salcot or Salcott was a place of far more significance than currently seems at first likely from a visit to this very small place on the Essex Coast.

I see that it is the place of origin of the brothers John Capon and William Capon who both made significant impact in Tudor Educational and Evangelistic history. It therefore seems entirely possible that there is considerable significance to this small village with Virley adjacent.

A question that occurs to me, is how did so isolated a place come to have it's own school, which had closed before I came to the area in 1982?

I see that their is a much older school at nearby Birch(sorry this links to the tree, it does link to the Essex village of this name via the disambiguation page). Also in the neighbourhood is that Tudor/Elizabethan monstrosity Layer Marney Tower whose original owner was so concerned with his status that he built his commanding gatehouse before his residence and went broke before the whole shebang was up. Possibly he wanted to be visible to such as the Capon family at Salcott, which is well within the visibility of that tower.

I hear that Eustace King

the Tiptree Undertaker, grew up in 1920's Salcott where his mother was unofficial Midwife and layer outer of the dead, he then became a builder and finally an undertaker in around 1980. He is currently on the circuit of Essex Women's Institutes giving talks of his life experiences including early 20th century Salcott. Tolkny (talk) 10:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Salcott cum VirleySalcott – "Salcott" alone usually seems to be the name of the village as well as the parish, the Ordnance Survey labels the village just "Salcott" on most levels and Google Maps also uses plain "Salcott", A-Z Great Britain and List of United Kingdom locations: Saa-Sanc#Saa-Sanc also uses plain "Salcott". Other sources do sometimes use "Salcott cum Virley" or similar but that might be partly due to the fact that the places are pretty much joined but Virley is still a separate parish with a separate article, this article should be for "Salcott" but "Salcott cum Virley" can continue to redirect here. Also if not moved this should be moved to "Salcott-cum-Virley" since when this name is used it is hyphenated. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:42, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
