Page Name Change
[edit]Since Royal Assent has been granted, shouldn't we change the name of the article to "Same-Sex Marriage in Guernsey?" Andrew1444 (talk) 20:15, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Recognition of same-sex unions in Guernsey → Same-sex marriage in Guernsey – Royal assent has already been given and the region is moving towards the effectivity date of the same-sex marriage laws. In practice, by this point all regions would have already been renamed from "Recognition of same-sex unions in" to "Same-sex marriage in". Growupon (talk) 01:53, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

- Oppose: there is a difference between Guernsey the island (and associated islands) and the Bailiwick of Guernsey consists of Guernsey (and associated islands), Alderney and Sark. This article is about the Bailiwick not just the island. It is only Guernsey (and associated islands) which allows same-sex marriage, while Alderney recognises same-sex marriages performed abroad for some purposes it does not allow them to be conducted within it's own territory, and Sark does not recognise or perform same-sex marriages. As such we should follow the titles used at Recognition of same-sex unions in Australia, Recognition of same-sex unions in Germany, Recognition of same-sex unions in Greece, Recognition of same-sex unions in Poland etc. which is the title usually used in locations where same-sex marriage is not recognised. This is also the case in the article Recognition of same-sex unions in Europe which like Guernsey is an article covered multiple jurisdictions with variations between the forms and types of recognition. - But same-sex marriage does take place in Guernsey, whether you are talking about the island or the Bailiwick. It doesn't take place at all in Germany, Greece, Poland etc. We can use the text to explain precisely what the situation is on each island, but it makes sense to bring this article into line with all the others. - Support. Every other page begins using "Same-sex marriage in" even when only sub-jurisdictions permit it ("SSM in Mexico" and "SSM in the United States" prior to June 2015.)Andrew1444 (talk) 16:00, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
