[edit]I don't know... this whole "World Conference of Jews" needs a better citation in my opinion. I've never heard of it, but I would think such a thing could be easily cited from a neutral, scholarly or newspaper article. Wjhonson 20:16, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree, I found this on a pretty biased website. I could not find a better reference at the time. If somebody sees one please point it out to me. Thanks Mark 17:45, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think you might find the idea that there is some kind of "World Conference of Jews" plays into the hands of people who think the Jews are in some kind of conspiracy to take over the world. I think the idea that there is such a Conference is a fallacy. You should remove the reference if it came from a biased site. Wjhonson 17:56, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
I agree that a suspect source should be used only if it can be corroborated. In fact, that whole paragraph seems to place the blame for what happened in the gheottoization and Holocaust on the Jews. Mary Rees 20:17, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
You are right to be concerned. One of the cources given at the bottom of this article, to a 7thflame website, is to a racist site which indeed blames the Holocaust on the Jews. This whole article is tainted by racism, i.e. in the separation of Untermyer's Political and Zionist activism, and his including the boycott of nazi goods, which was an act of Jewish self-defense, under Zionist activism. it also repeats the canard about Nazi anti-Semitism coming only in response to jewish actions, but as the page I incorporated from the U.S. Holocaust Museum clearly shows, Hitler began anti-Semitic legislation almost immediately upon taking office (first pieces of legislation barring Jews from universities and the civil service in April 1933) and Untermyer's didn't begin acting until May and his NYT speech wasn't until August.82.35.62.245 13:16, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[D D Guttenplan, author of The Holocaust on Trial]
- I'm not sure about the "World Conference" thing you are all discussing (perhaps it was deleted) but I found it a little strange to list Untermyer's anti-German statements (political or otherwise) under the heading of "Pro-Zionist"; after all, Zionism is not inherently anti-German, or even *completely* anti-Nazi, as for example in the case of Adolf Eichmann who worked before the war on ideas surrounding (forced) emigration of German Jews to Palestine, including a trip to the Middle East to study its feasibility and meetings with Zionists there, thus it can be argued that before the war began the goals of Zionism and Nazism were not *entirely* in opposition (both were interested in promoting Jewish emigration to Palestine, although for very different reasons and under different conditions).Historian932 (talk) 11:37, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
The section in question has been edited out, and guessing the sources given previously were somewhat biased. This source (Author: Hawkins, Richard A. Publication: American Jewish History) appears to be written from a pro-Untermeyer/pro-Jewish perspective (http://www.thefreelibrary.com/%22Hitler%27s+bitterest+foe%22%3A+Samuel+Untermyer+and+the+boycott+of+Nazi...-a0166200849)... example quotes:
- "Before returning to his home, Untermyer went to the WABC radio studio where he made an appeal, which was also broadcast by the Columbia network, in which he described the boycott as a "holy war in the cause of humanity."
- "At the conference Silver took issue with Untermyer's prediction that the boycott had the potential to cause starvation in Germany and the collapse of the Nazi government."
Whichever way you want to paint it - Untermeyer was a radical Zionist/anti-Nazi hellbent on destabilising the Nazi regime, or Untermeyer was a patriot of his people who despised and foresaw the Nazi threat, some mention of his actions to influence the state of affairs in Germany should be included in the article. (Bearing in mind that the source I have provided may not provide a biased perspective in favour of Untermeyer) With Love -TM 122.150.178.86 (talk) 16:09, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Organization of this page
[edit]Does anyone think that this article needs to be reorganized? There's a part about his biography at the beginning (Life) and at the end (Personal Life), but I can't figure out how to rearrange it to make sense. Thellomerca (talk) 19:43, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
