Smith received partial survivors' benefits from the City of San Francisco, though he only received $5,500 of the $50,000 that California law stated dependents of those killed on the job can receive; they no longer lived together but Milk still paid his rent and utilities.
The article says that Smith received benefits, subject to appeal. However, his papers at the SF Public Library make reference to Worker's Compensation Appeals Board (1978-1983), so I'm wondering if he won or lost this one.--Larrybob (talk) 01:26, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
