History merge

[edit]
comment-the reason I suggested the merge is, like Scouting in Russia, the early histories all start from a common root-unlike, say, Ukraine, where each developed very independently. Wasn't suggesting to merge because either is a stub, yet it's not pages and pages like History of the BSA. Chris 15:54, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe a "History of Scouting in Eastern Europe" page if they have a common root.Rlevse 16:05, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about scouting so I either should be ignored or thought of as an observer. What you have is a pretty empty page here and a difficult to read (and find) article about early scouting in Poland. Suggest move history to here (until you have a lot more). Suggest maybe take out a seperate entry for the man who is described so much on the other page. Victuallers 19:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That it is difficult to find is another reason I suggest the merge. Chris 21:02, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've cleaned up the article (most of the information was on an uprising and a paramilitary type group and not actually about scouting. This has been rectified and the article is much much much shorter and a lot more managable. I think now that it's been reduced in size and had it's scope "fixed" to actually cover what it should be, I think it should be merged into this article as a sub section. Fair use rationale for Image:LilijkaZHP.jpg

[edit]

Image:LilijkaZHP.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:33, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion

[edit]

I find this article incredibly confusing as there is no coherent timeline. Indeed the first date mentioned is 1912, when a scouting movement was supposedly started in Greater Poland. However, no mention is made of the ZHP, which was founded in 1910, until well into the article (see ZHP article), and merely as a passing reference. I find this rather bewildering, seeing as the ZHP was and still is by far the dominant scouting body in Poland.

Indeed this article appears to be mostly about one Henryk Śniegocki, with extracts from his memoirs seemingly the primary source for most of the text, and very little to do with scouting in Poland.

This article needs a complete overhaul, as I think readers new to the topic would be highly mislead.--TomL77 (talk) 02:10, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note ZHP has its own article. Chris (クリス) (talk) 02:18, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, but you would think the two would be in some way related, being of similar topics, but they are not. --TomL77 (talk) 13:39, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You'd be most welcome to overhaul it, that's what the 'pedia is about. :) Chris (クリス) (talk) 20:10, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Being completely ignorant in the subject of Scouting (to the point I didn't know the custom of capitalizing the word Scout - sorry!), I've stumbled upon this article only because it was marked as requiring attention by fluent Polish speaker - but nevermind that. After a short research I've found out that the history described here is not the history of Polish Scout movement. This is the history heavily focused of a certain period of Scouting movement in a certain part of Poland. To put it in American perspective - instead of the whole history of Scouting in U.S. you would have a history of how this movement had catch up in Oregon - absurd amount of weight put on a not a very important fragment. The story constantly revolves around Henryk Śniegocki (relatively minor activist) to such point, that I believe this might come straight from his biography.
I think the current history text could be moved to Henryk Śniegocki article with no harm. I will not write equally lengthy text about the actual history of Polish Scouting, but I think it is critical to have on-topic and balanced content. --Kubanczyk (talk) 22:40, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, I was right on the spot... After looking at the edit history I found with disdain, that a certain editor decided to do the following "moved Falcons and Scout movements in Greater Poland to History of the Scout movement in Poland: better title" link to this move. This resulted with a lot of confusion and unnecessary work for others, including me. (Falcons are not Scouts. Greater Poland is not a leading/representative part of Poland.) --Kubanczyk (talk) 09:32, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Communist Poland

[edit]

The article doesn't describe scouting/pioneers in Communist Poland.Xx236 13:52, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image Image:UIGSE.svg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

I do not know anything about Scouting and Guiding in Poland, but I do coordinate mediation for the Scouting WikiProject and try to help resolving problems like this. So, let us leave the article as it is at present and would both of you please outline your reasons, User:Kubanczyk for the change, and User:Kintetsubuffalo for opposing the change. I feel sure we can resolve this. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:31, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated the section "Confusion" (on this talk page, few sections up) as you were adding your note. My reasons are there. --Kubanczyk (talk) 22:42, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but you seemed to be making other changes. Why did you make those? Let us wait until User:Kintetsubuffalo responds. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:52, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My reasons for reverting these changes are that Kubanczyk was undoing proper capitalization in English (which I now understand he did not know the convention-good faith) and removing text (this one is usually a violation of WP:IDONTLIKEIT-again I can assume good faith, but it guts the article by half) and changing of order of the organizations from alphabetical to put ZHP at the top, which smacks of POV. I do not accuse Kubanczyk of vandalism, I reverted because the numerous problems with the edits were so great that it was impossible to pick out anything of value from the problematic edits. When an editor who has no previous history with an article removes half the article, that is a red flag generally. The history section is strange and focused, but it is encyclopedic and was merged here for lack of a better place to put it. I agree the thing needs a rewrite, which is why it was tagged at the top, but gutting it is not the way to go about it. The solution is to expand the history to be general and to include the other organizations. Note that ZHP, ZHR and a few others have their own articles. About 5 years ago, before the Scouting project started, there was an energetic Polish Scouting editor who filled the English Wikipedia with some good articles. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 08:05, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Per Kubanczyk's suggestion above, I support the merge of the Sniegocki info to his bio, it really makes more sense there and it is a good solution, thanks! --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 08:07, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll proceed with my edits one by one, with detailed explaining. --Kubanczyk (talk) 08:15, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is all well now? What article has the Falcons material been moved to? Bduke (Discussion) 09:23, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All well over here. Content has been moved to Sokół. --Kubanczyk (talk) 09:47, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How many scouts?

[edit]

The article says in the introduction that there are 190,000 members overall, 170,000 of them in ZHP. Where do these numbers come from? Our article Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, says there are 110,000 members in ZHP. Also the Polish wikipedia article gives 110,729 as of 2008. --195.150.224.247 (talk) 12:46, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interwar period

[edit]

The whole section about interwar period (1918-1939) is missing. Morycm (talk) 05:31, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Or rather, the section describing WWII and the Communist Era events happens right after pre-war period, and the sections on scouting in Greater Poland, WWI, and post-WWI occur subsequently. We need some chronology here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morycm (talkcontribs) 05:38, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
