Battle of 1509
[edit]In section Bacground It is claimed that the major Battle of Diu (1509) took place between the Ottoman and Portuguese fleets. But it is impossible. In 1509 Egypy, Syria and Red Sea were under Mameluk control and Mameluks were fighting against Ottomans. How can Ottoman navy be transferred to Red Sea ? (Not via Cape of Good Hope with Mediterranean galleys) Ottomans annexed these territories in 1517, during the reign of Selim I . I have seen this assertion in several other articles about Portuguese navy. Probably there is a confussion about the name Turk, for the the early Mameluks (as well as Ottomans) were etnically Turk. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 18:19, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- I corrected that, Ottomans indeed gave their support to the Mameluks but where not the major force within the coalition of muslims--Kimdime (talk) 21:06, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Siege??
[edit]The actual siege description takes like one medium-length paragraph in the multi-page article. The drowning of sultan is descripted twice. Is all this intended? Yury Tarasievich (talk) 08:37, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
