Citations

[edit]

Hello Mods, I noticed the warnings. I will be adding more citations and looking for more sources. This is truly the first software organization mentioned more in the books of the founders and there are also some articles in old magazines. I have read on the citation and trustable sources links that books are acceptable and the book actually cites all off the sentences mentioned in the article. If you could let me know if the book cite would pass as trustable, I could cite it for each sentence. Otherwise, I will try older magazines and look for govt resources.

This organization is pretty important since it is the first one in history for us software developers, but yeah sure, I will look for better cites. Rainbouw19 (talk) 13:12, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rainbouw. The book you're referring to is written (and self-published?) by Mev Dinc, co-founder of the society, so the relevant policy is WP:BLPSELFPUB. This asks that "the article is not based primarily on such sources" and that it is not used for any "unduly self-serving" statements, nor claims about third parties. For a big claim like being the first professional organisation for software devs, we need someone other than Dinc to have said that. --Lord Belbury (talk) 13:28, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, Thanks for the information. I am digging for solid sources. I changed it to ' It's one of the earliest professional organisations established to support software developers with standard agreements, advice and other benefits' and cited it to the book for now, I found several old magazines on internet archives but they don't look much good so far. Hello again Lord Belbury. I dropped the claim First since I am unable to figure a source, however I updated the article to cite one more magazine to back the existing sentences. I hope we pass the notability at least by having no earlier record of any other body. Do you think this looks fine?
Notability is determined by Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). In a nutshell: "An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources."
The sources at present are all written by the organisation's founders: a website by Jon Dean, a book by Mev Dinc and two small mentions in the computing press. The Home Computing Weekly source is little more than a classified ad, and the ACE article frames all of its claims as quotes from Mev Dinc. The article will need some sources where people who aren't the founders put the society into context. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:25, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, I will try look for better. Can this article change into a stub until?Rainbouw19 (talk) 13:42, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A stub article still needs to meet notability requirements, but sure, I'll add a stub template. --Lord Belbury (talk) 18:01, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Claim of first professional organisation for software...

[edit]

Hello mods, my sources tell me there was no other organization alike at least in the UK. I am collecting some mentions here which don't suggest a first yet, but I'll keep looking, or simply remove that mention. I found a good long article describing other aspects in ACE Mag

Turkish Telekom Investor Report

I removed the claim First Rainbouw19 (talk) 19:47, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Value Of Article/Notability

[edit]

The value of this article is that it's claimed to be the first Software Developers organization. While this claim only comes from the main source, there are no other records of any earlier organization.

I have found out about this gem when I read Mev's biography, I found a lot of mentions about the SSA in archive.org magazines and also its purpose, but no mention of First. I'll try reach out to other parties for more information Rainbouw19 (talk) 13:00, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
