GA status

[edit]

This nomination is on hold for 7 days for the following reasons: the lead is too short, expand the stubby sections (statures, 1945), there is only one reference, see if the trivia section can be incorporated into the article's main body (trivia sections are frowned upon), add a reference section--the one ref you have does not appear in a ref section.Rlevse 10:25, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Current: the one ref is not much and the citation tag needs a reference found. Progressing nicely.Rlevse 14:48, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Working on it, Rlevse. Thanks for your patience. Lovelac7 04:42, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photo at baseball game

[edit]

I removed the Sparty.jpg image because the one on Wikipedia does not depict Sparty. It's not the same as the one on Wikimedia Commons, which does (and is an excellent shot, in my opinion). I have tagged Sparty.jpg for speedy deletion in the hope that we may use the Commons image. Kevin Forsyth (talk) 12:35, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Sparty/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

I am reassessing this article as a part of GA Sweeps. Here are some suggestions for improvement:

  • I've added a few citation needed tags, which need to be taken care of.
  • "More recently" is a time dependent statement. Can it be more specific?
  • A lot of the sentences in the second paragraphs of "costumed mascot" begin with "In (date)...". It needs to be mixed up to sound less redundant.
  • Refs 2 and 5 need to be formatted with Template:cite web.
  • Ref 1 needs page numbers.

The article will remain on hold for seven days to allow for improvements, at which time I will make a decision about keeping/delisting. Thanks. Nikki311 00:40, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most of this was taken care of, so I finished some of the rest. There was one sentence left with a citation needed tag, so I just removed it as it didn't change the meaning of the article and it wasn't that vital. Ref 2 (formally ref 1) still needs page numbers, but that one fact isn't enough to keep me from passing this GAR. Great work! Nikki311 00:56, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:MSU Bronze Sparty 2.jpg

[edit]

File:MSU Bronze Sparty 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a non-free use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Kidnapping of Sparty

[edit]

Sparty was kidnapped by Michigan men in 1967. He changed colors and held a press conference. Sparty was returned during the Michigan game. MSU rejected his return and Sparty was replaced. See www.TheGreatestCollegePrankof AllTime.com for an entertaining story and a recap of the Tumultuous 1960s.
