St. Francis High School's Name[edit]

I am a student at St. Francis High School and I can tell you that we have dumped the "de Sales" in the late 1970's. We formally go by St. Francis of Assisi now. User:lakersnbulls91

Quite frankly, I'm amazed a school with less than a thousand students is considered encyclopedia worthy. :) Ours18 09:34, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

teacher biographies, etc[edit]

Lengthy biographies of the school's teachers is not of encyclopedic value. this is an encyclopedia, not a website for the school. please do not re-add this stuff. --ZimZalaBim (talk) 04:21, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

People keep adding this back. Wikipedia is not a school website. None of these teachers are notable and provide no encyclopedic value whatsoever. Article should include general information about the school, not bios and MS paint pictures on teachers that are irrelevant to anyone who does not attend the school.--aviper2k7 22:32, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am ordering a cease and desist of vandalizing this page and taking out information. There is nothing wrong with having a page with information, this IS Wikipedia after all and should provide us some information. There are plenty of other pages with "useless" information such as; The Green Bay Packers page, Chicago Bulls Page, Parker Brothers page, Finding Nemo page, etc. If you'd like to not to have teacher bios then please get rid of all useless info on other pages as well. If you do not wish to cooperate than just erase this WHOLE SFHS page then you already vandalized this more than once and myself and several other users have fixed it and then someone just erased it again pleas don't.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluemagewadabou (talkcontribs)

There's a difference between a Green Bay Packers page and a teacher bio page on a high school article. Not everything on Wikipedia is permitted. Please see what Wikipedia is not. Wikipedia articles should include things that are notable. Green Bay Packers are notable. It includes many sources and useful information. High school teacher biographies are not notable. The section includes no sources, which means it is original research. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for a school website. I will say this again, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, this teacher section is not encyclopedic and hold no encyclopedic value. Please read the Wikipedia policies I have linked and refrain from re-adding non-encyclopedic information. And please sign your posts.++aviper2k7++ 04:43, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like to talk about policies then please by all means look at what wikipedia is not. Read the part about user pages and then please change your user page to the appropriate settings before talking to us about breaking the rules. Your pages also have uneccessary comments and information it must be altered. User:bluemagewadabou 14:16, 4 December 2006

  • In all seriousness, please keep the discussion on the article. My userpage is fine with policy. Please see WP:User page. If you have problems with it, leave me a message on my talk page and I will reply to it. Please keep your edits in good faith also :/ ++aviper2k7++ 02:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I've said before, the school is not encyclopedia-worthy. It has less than a thousand members. It's had a history of athletic excellence in what is essentially the high school equivalent of the little league (except for all sports). It has no notable alumni. It was not involved in any historic or significant event. Less than a handful of the teacher's have PHD's in their field. The closest thing I can think of to make it noteworthy is that it was probably the first Catholic high school to have a lesbian love triangle betwixt a gym teacher, a religion teacher and the principal. As is to be expected, however, they don't have that on their official site, and I doubt the Daily Herald or the Chicago Tribune carried any info about it. So you can't source it.

If you really insist on keeping the page, here's a hint: USE THE FRIGGIN' SOURCES. The official website has much of the information already on the Wiki page. I imagine the IHSA has a website--look for it and use it for the sports information. The part about this so called "Life at St. Francis" animation needs to go. If you want it on here, ask its creators to put it up online so it can be sourced. I myself would like to see it, I'm interested in what the current classes think of my teachers (the ones that are still there, anyway). Until it's put online though, it can't be put in this article.Ours18 05:25, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Generally high schools are kept when voted for deletion. An informational page on a school is definitely noteworthy and encyclopedic. Many schools on Wikipedia have less than a thousand members and have articles. My school is one of them (I did not even create it). There's a handful of reasons teacher bios should not be added to an encyclopedia. They are not encyclopedic and they depend on an opinion the student has of the teacher. That means it's original research and point of view. Remember, this is an encyclopedia, and not a website on the school. Thank you.++aviper2k7++ 02:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok fine geez you win, you administrators are such bullies and hypocrites, fine i'll get rid of the whole page. You know i'll even help, i'll delete all unneccessary info on this page whenever it pops up. If you don't want to be a contributor and rather just delete things then don't have an account on the site, becouse your supposed to help make the site and articles better not worse. There, I took care off all the "useless" things. Are you happy now, I was just trying to help, Oh and by the way all our friggin things ARE noteworthy and true info. User:bluemagewadabou 20:31, 4 December 2006

I'm not an administrator and I am not a hypocrite, how would I be one? Please don't disrupt wikipedia to make a point. Encyclopedic things about the school are fine, things like teachers biographies are not. Not everything can be added to Wikipedia. I can't add an article on myself, it would be deleted in less than a day. I'm trying to make a better encyclopedia. Teacher bios that a student wrote is not encyclopedic. I am making this article better. ZimZamBlam did it too. It's not acceptable to add un-encyclopedic material. Please edit in good faith also.++aviper2k7++ 04:50, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I established this page, and now I believe to delete it because you people keep messing with it and now no one can tell what is fact and what is fiction. Now I love wikipedia, I've been using it for years and I don't want to see it go down or become ruined because people keep on breaking up pages, if you'd just leave it alone, we'd all be fine ok? And I know everything cannot be put on a site, but then how come so many other people get away with it? Focus all other bigger problems before it's too late, why does evryone persist on ruining THIS page?User:bluemagewadabou 20:52, 4 December 2006

Hey bluemagewadabou! What grade are you in? Because I'd like to help you remake the page to be a bit more like an encyclopedia. I understand what they're saying, but i think they're blowing this WAY out of proportion. We can touch up on the sports and notable accomplishments. By the way I go to SFHS!!!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.56.97 (talkcontribs)

Well um, that's very nice to offer; we would like all the help we could get. I guess we are going to have to start from scratch, that is if "they" let us even put anything on ok?

Geez. I think everybody should just calm down a bit. I am also a student at St. Francis, and although I enjoyed the teacher bio's, etc. (especially the funny Mr. Page and Richter caricatures) when they were up, I guess I (reluctantly) concede they would fit better on a blog or something rather than an encyclopedia. I really think this page has a lot of potential, especially when it comes to showcasing the many accomplishments of the school's sport and other extra-curricular teams, as well as the great academic opportunities (like the many AP classes) that are available. I also think it would be kind of cool and interesting if someone who knows about the school's controversies (like the staff love scandal) could add it under a trivia section or something. I think all who know or like this school should make it a goal to rival this school's webpage. To admins and other seasoned users, although it's policy, I don't think it's realistic to find many sources, especially reliable ones, about the school other than the SFHS web pg. itself, which of course would be biased in favor of the school (although you're encouraged to prove me wrong and find some!). Although I may get shot down for this, you'll just have to trust we know what we're talking about, and that if someone adds lies or other misleading facts, it will be fixed by someone who knows the school. Oh, and Bluemagewadabou, I understand your frustration, but please, have patience, and don't do something that would get yourself blocked. You seem to know a lot about the school, and future contributions from you would be appreciated. And aviper2k7, I'd like to see some proof (a reference perhaps :-)) that you're really part owner of the Packers. That's quite a claim to make. Anyway, everybody take a breather and relax for a bit, before ZimZalaBim comes back from his wikibreak and goes back on the rampage (just kidding!) Thanks and have a good day/night!!-67.167.93.51 03:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, about the Packers; in 1997 the Packers began issuing stock to their fans. I was only about 8 at the time, and my dad bought me a share of stock. The team is literally owned by its fans. See this page for more details. My stock is framed and hanging in my room, I might take an image of it and put it in the Packer article once I buy a camera after Christmas.
Moving back on topic, 67.167.93.51 (I suggest getting an account) I think you're right. It's hard to source school pages. The main school website is sometimes the only source available. Does this make the school impossible to do an article on? Of course not. I like to think there's a curve when it comes to school pages. The editors of these school pages are faculty and students. It's original research and not necessarily the most verifiable, but hey, who's really doubting some of these things? I think it's pretty clear that your mascot is the Spartans, even though it really isn't referenced. Don't make me out to be a bad person, I'm trying to improve this encyclopedia, not just take away your information. I want this encyclopedia to be an encyclopedia and not a school website. Wikipedia is not a collection of random information. It has to be verifiable, relevant, ext. If you add something that seems wrong, then an editor will come by and tag the section as unsourced, or put a [citation needed] sign next to the information. If it's not fixed in awhile, then it can be taken down. I don't think Wikipedia that black and white on all of this referencing stuff, but we'll get the job done in the best interest of its editors and will try to follow the guidelines as best as we can.
And off topic again, I'll be in your state tomorrow ;) ++aviper2k7++ 05:43, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, Aviper2k7, I never knew that about the Packers. Too bad the stock can't be resold (except back to the company). I believe you, but it'd be nice to see the stock certificate. Anyway, I'm glad you recognize the sourcing issue. You're right that it doesn't give the article a free pass to contain any sort of random info, but it certainly gives it a bit more flexibility, and its editors a bit more breathing room. By the way, I've been intending to get an account, but I'm been fairly busy, and also can't decide on a username (it's gotta be good, as the renaming process can be difficult, and the account can't be deleted). One last thing: Should the list of school admins/officials (that I wrote) be re-added, or is it just too much? And should the article be stubbed now that it's pretty short? Thanks, and have fun in Illinois!!-67.167.93.51 23:38, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok dude, if we (me, bluemagewadabou, alex and co,) put "Life at SFHS" on the the web, will you get off our backs and let us post a page about it with pics? or is that too "unimportant" for you?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.166.49.31 (talkcontribs)

Perhaps it could be added. I, for one, have been curious for some time about this cartoon series. So I encourage you to try to put it online and mention it in the article. At that point, it's permanence in the article can be discussed here.-67.167.93.51 23:38, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
206.166.49.31, please do not personally attack me. Realize that Wikipedia isn't "the web", it's an encyclopedia. That stuff would be good on a personal website, like a blog (blogger.com is free), not on Wikipedia to promote your cartoon series to the internet or your school. And please realize I do not own this article, so stop saying I control it.++aviper2k7++ 01:25, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Listen, StrongBad and other flash animations on the web are mentioned on this site and no one questions if they should be on this site. So why can't our poorly animated show be on this show? Name one good reason why they could and us not? User:bluemagewadabou 19:56, 8 December 2006

Because several hundred thousand people do not view your comics.++aviper2k7++ 06:47, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But what if I DID put it on the web, then millions of people would watch it, huh what do you say to that punk? User:bluemagewadabou 10:53, 10 December 2006

What is that? What the #$@%$# is that supposed to be? Geez, why havent you answered the question. Anyway, I believe it may not be that good of a idea to put SFHS cartoon online. The cartoon is simply too amaetuer and poorly done to show to the world. Besides, we only completed 3 four minute episodes. Maybe when we accomplished more....but......work is veeerrrry sssllloooowww! [unknown user] 20:02, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

P.S....maybe I should become the "greenmagewadabou" huh? ^_^

The page![edit]

I'm a student at St. Francis, and I think it's fine to have an article up considering that there are many unnecessary articles on Wikipedia. However, I'm extremely angered by what some my fellow students have put on this page. I hope to edit this to show what St. Francis offers to its students. In fact, we have won many Varsity Girl's Volleyball in our state in both Single-A and Double-A (the only to do so). I think that this does deserve more recognition on the page as well.

SFHS Wikpedia[edit]

I have made many attempts to make this page very insightful towards the SFHS life style. I myself did not start this page, however being one of the first people to actually do anything with this page, i believe i have some sort of say in on this page, perhaps the SFHS student editors and administrator/moderaters can make some sort of compromise for i don't believe that we should quarell over one page. I myself as an editor am willing to make some changes such as taking the pleasant, yet maybe unneccessary, pictures from the page. So please, we very much would like the administrator/moderaters to just here us out and just compromise.
