Asault allegations

[edit]

"A 1985 issue of Jet Magazine states that Mills was sued for allegedly striking a female cast member of the 1984 revival of The Wiz. The suit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Mills, according to the suit, had committed previous assaults and had a tendency to become "violent and physically aggressive toward anyone with whom she became angry". In addition to the $200,000, Dennis requested unspecified punitive damages. Cassandra Mills, Stephanie Mills's then sister-in-law and manager stated that she was not aware of the charges. Further, there was no reporting as to whether Mills was found guilty of the allegations or how or if the matter was settled." (my italics)

I'm concerned about this paragraph as there are no references and it makes allegations which raise BLP issues. This needs to be references (with the Jet Magazine article at least and preferably other sources) as soon as possible or it should probably be removed. I agree that the paragraph is libelous and should be deleted

[edit]

I just did an extensive search on "stephanie mills" and "lawsuit" and found two references to lawsuits in Ebony and Jet magazines. The first goes back to 1984 and is about Stephanie and her then husband Jeff Daniels contemplating a lawsuit against the New York Daily News for defamation. The second was a lawsuit Stephanie brought against her manager for misappropriation of funds.

I am convinced that the reference to striking a female employee is mistaken and am going to delete the paragraph.166.205.10.217 (talk) 04:11, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's in the 1985 JET issue here

Per the reasoning provided at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive125#Stephanie Mills, I am considering removing the YouTube video. It does not appear to be uploaded by the copyright holder and it looks like it is still under protection. Wanted to mention it first in case I was missing something. More info on it is available (only an essay but I created it based on policies, guidelines, and precedent) at Wikipedia:Video links#Use. Cptnono (talk) 06:23, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
