Need Better Photo of Mather

[edit]

There must be a better portrait photo of Mather than that poor one. BillShurts (talk) 18:13, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This has been fixed

[edit]

I looked at the article as it stood when BillShurts made his comment. The photo presently in use is much better. Oaklandguy (talk) 06:56, 11 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of name?

[edit]

Two questions. Did Mather pronounce his name with a long a (as in "pane") or a short a (as in "pan"), or maybe as in "father"? Also, did he use the hard th (as in "bathe") or the soft th (as in "bath")? If someone has a reference, that would be a nice improvement to the article. an answer

[edit]

PBS produced The National Parks: America's Best Idea. In two clips, the documentary uses the short "a" and the hard "th", so the name rhymes with "lather". I don't know how to insert pronuncation into articles, and I'm very new at references, so for now, I won't edit the article. If someone else knows how to do it, please do! That Bronze Plaque

[edit]

I was just on a hike with my son near Chinook Pass in Washington: Lake Tipsoo. I saw the same plaque as in the photo. So if anyone is interested they could add that location to the page. Also, if anyone is interested I would be happy to upload my photo of the plaque I took today. Thanks, Tom H.
