Information needed

Is there any information about this person's background in academia? The only sign of anything is being made a fellow of the NZ Royal Society for work in linguistics. In the article here and elsewhere he is referred to as an 'independent linguist'. I have looked at his book "A History of the Pacific Islands" and, although published by Palgrave Macmillan, what he writes about New Zealand in the 19th century is pretty amateur. There isn't any information in that book either about his academic background. Is this person more than a self-promoted hobbyist? Roger 8 Roger (talk) 20:34, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
