Genre

[edit]

Shouldn't the genres for both this and "Berzerk" be rap rock? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.125.206.170 (talk) 08:11, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, they both are intentionally going for the same 80s rap rock style that Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys used to do. Rap Rock is classified on Wikipedia as "fusing vocal and instrumental elements of hip hop with various forms of rock". If you listen to the songs they both include vocal and instrumental elements of hip hop, plus forms of rock. They also both have a very obvious rap rock sound. I have also found web sources that classify both of them as rap rock but someone keeps trying to revert it. Metalfan72 (talk) 00:34, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, never do what you just did to the article, by restoring it back weeks you blanked out various portions of the article and should have been swiftly warned for it but I will take it as a mistake. Second, neither of the sources you provided refer to the song as a "rap rock song", so you might as well not gave any at all because you are adding original research. I didn't revert it back to weeks ago, I just changed the genre and re-added the sources. Also, even without the references, I think the argument made on this talk page stands. Both songs fit Wikipedia's definition of rap rock very well and should be listed as rap rock on their Wikipedia pages. Metalfan72 (talk) 20:15, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, what? I just checked the edit history and apparently my edit did revert a lot of edits that it wasn't supposed to. I remember specifically deciding not to revert the edit made by Koala since it was so long ago so I just re-added the genre and references. My apologies, I have no idea how that happened. Just because they meet the definition of a Wikipedia article lacking sources, does not meet it should be included. We need reliable sources that refer to the song as a "rap rock song". STATic message me! 23:21, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well I guess that's that. This song is only hip hop even though it contains a rock instrumental. Maybe I should go and change every Run DMC album and single page to where the genre just says hip hop instead of rap rock, which most of it obviously is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.125.197.252 (talk) 01:38, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry we do not accept original research. Oh, and go ahead, see how quick you are blocked for being a WP:GENREWARRIOR. STATic message me! 01:48, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a fucking "genre warrior". I just don't see why this song or "Berzerk" can't be listed as rap rock when every DMC and Beastie song is listed as such without question.
