Map[edit]

The map is incorrect. Karimganj (district) and Hailakhandi (district) should be included in the map. SagorSiloti (talk) 15:30, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SagorSiloti: Thank you for informing me, I have changed the map. UserNumber (talk) 16:10, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Move[edit]

Hi everyone, the Sylhet region article was previously a redirect to Sylhet Division but I was the one who changed it to a separate article a few years ago and have been majorly contributing to it. However, I am now thinking to shorten this article and move most of the information to Sylhet Division. The reason being is that the historic Sylhet region is pretty much the same as the Sylhet Division of Bangladesh, with the exception being a tiny strip which was given to India which we know as the Karimganj district.

I am thinking to change the Sylhet region into a very short article summarising the partition of Sylhet or maybe a disambiguation page; with majority of the information (History, Governance, Geography, Culture) being moved to the Sylhet Division page (and the Karimganj district where applicable). Do I have permission to do this?

@UserNumber Hello, I think you should make this a mini article, you are indeed correct about the fact that most of the Sylhet region's history, culture, etc is from Sylhet division's side but, Karimganj has a lot to contribute to the history of Sylhet. Karimganj has a long history and is a Sylheti region. The people of Karimganj have been historically Sylhetis and other small tribes, not to mention that Karimganj used to be a part of Sylhet before the referendum. Hailakandi has a chance of also being Sylheti or of some Sylheti origins, there is a theory or though that "Kandi" is an extinct Sylheti word, thus the name Hailakandi could have been originated from Sylhetis living in that area.
the Cachar district of Barak Valley borders Sylhet division's Zakiganj Upazila, near the border some of these places are Sylheti, their names also seem to be similar with Sylhet Division's & Karimganj's place names. The "Kandi" word also exists in a place near the Cachar-Zakiganj border caller Karaikandi (spelling might be wrong).
there is also another fact that the Barak Valley has a huge Sylheti immigrant population, this immigration could've started from the Bengal Sultanate era or after a few years or so of Shah Jalal's arrival. So small immigrants of Sylhetis have been living in Cachar for at least a few centuries by now. I think there is enough info to make "Sylhet Region" a bigger article. ꠚꠣꠞꠢꠣꠘ ꠝꠣꠢꠤ (talk) 23:13, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also to mention that the Sylhet region article gets nowhere near as much views as Sylhet Division does. UserNumber (talk) 18:12, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not Move[edit]

I oppose merging the two articles. Because Sylhet region and Sylhet division have different contents. The first is about a geographical region and the second is about a city
