The Oddest thing

[edit]

About Steiner's book is that there is no mention of Raymond Firth's, The Work of the Gods in Tikopia, published in the 30s. That has extremely detailed material on taboo, mana and whatnot, but Firth's finesse as a field analyst of data, one who was dismissive of theory as something that could embrace all of a given phenomenon, probably meant Franz couldn't fit him into the critical mould about 'Western' imperialist ethnography. In turn, at least to judge from the indexes of the revised edition with Firth published in 1967, Firth ignored Steiner, who doesn't figure there, as far as I can gain from checking the bibliography and indexes. Not that observing this is useful for this article.Nishidani (talk) 17:46, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
