Redirected

[edit]

At this time, this song does not assert notability. As it stands, its an album track that had one week of chart action due to digital sales on the week Animal was released. There is no video, no other claims of notability per WP:SONGS, and no confirmation that this will be released as the third or fourth single. Until such information is announced and properly sourced via WP:RS, this article should remain a redirect. Continued re-creation before any official announcement has been made will lead to full protection and/or a nomination at WP:AfD. - eo (talk) 19:15, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Redirection *New*

[edit]

The aricle should not be redirected. It was announced that it would be released as the fourth single. The album article provides very little info on the song. And the song is notable because it sold 394,000 copies and has remained in the 100 list on the itunes charts.--☺♪Ane§leyP♫☻ 01:51, 25 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anesleyp (talkcontribs)

The article at this point is still speculation, unless we have a physical or radio release date for the song (which we do not), it still stands as speculation, there for the article is not to be created, sorry. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 02:53, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well can the article at least stay as-is and still be displayed on the "other songs" place on Kesha's template?--☺♪Ane§leyP♫☻ (talk) 03:03, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No sorry, i will add all this and remove the redirect once we have a release date. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 05:50, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Single Cover

[edit]

I don't know how to put it on here, but there is a single cover here http://www.aolradioblog.com/2010/06/15/kesha-take-it-off/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.43.19.251 (talk) 17:50, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link, but the image is way too small. Ill add it as soon as i can find a higher resolution :) (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 17:53, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure that image is fanmade. That picture of Ke$ha is a bit old and actually from her digital booklet. It's popular in fan-made covers I've seen before like this one: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6lV5hzNR1fU/S0Hn6DyB7sI/AAAAAAAAHu4/NWypYHrRhMg/s400/kesha+dinosaure+justcdcover.blogspot.com.jpeg Xiivi (talk) 18:34, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The cover has been confirmed here and here (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 19:40, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Similarity To Other Recordings

[edit]

Has anyone else noticed that this track has a very similar melody to a traditional middle eastern song? I can't name it, but it's almost identical in parts. It also seems to borrow heavily from "Can You Feel It" by The Jacksons in one particular section. 220.236.81.177 (talk) 11:43, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"The Streets of Cairo" or "Colin Prend Sa Hotte" or "Kradoutja" might be what you're remembering. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Streets_of_Cairo,_or_the_Poor_Little_Country_Maid

This should definitely get a mention. The article currently strongly suggests that the song is entirely original work, whereas it is clearly 'inspired' by this melody. Dare I say it, but the lyrics are also very similar to some of the 'alternative' lyrics to that tune that was sung in the playground when I was at school, something similar to Variant 3 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Streets_of_Cairo,_or_the_Poor_Little_Country_Maid#Lyrics

There's a place in France, where the naked ladies dance, with their long blond hair and their boobies in the air, there's a hole in the wall ... etc, two of the lines are virtually copied word for word. -- DForster 84.43.92.222 (talk) 01:10, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a recording of the song: http://vimeo.com/6126822 -DForster 84.43.92.222 (talk) 01:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not done None of this is being added. Not a single critic has mentioned this. Adding would be POV. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me -

Actually, i have mentioned this already. Read the Composition; "Daniel Brockman from The Phoenix described the song as "a heavily Auto-Tuned reworking" of "There's a Place in France".[6]"

Digital Release

Has there been any news about a Digital Release or CD Single? Thanks--61.68.135.145 (talk) 08:54, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Composition Section

[edit]

Is it really necessary to mention the beats per minute or the key? Are they notable for some reason? Kaiguy (talk) 07:06, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, as they are apart of the songs composition. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 07:27, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to concede that the key and BPM are part of the composition, what I'm really asking is are they notable enough to justify inclusion? Is the composition section itself notable enough to warrant inclusion?Kaiguy (talk) 04:40, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please read any WP:GA or WP:FA music article as they are essential to understanding the topic. Any well written music article on wikipedia will include a composition section. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 04:43, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What'd I Say - No mention of key, or beats per minute. Instead the story of the improvisational aspects of the songs creation, i.e. the notable aspects of the composition process. Like A Rolling Stone - no mention of key or beats per minute. Instead, a long section about the actually writing of the song. Touch Me I'm Sick - No composition section at all. Monkey Gone to Heaven - a melody section with the chord progression, no bpm. This isn't a standardized thing, where all songs need this info. Every one of those examples was a featured article. So I'll ask again, what is significant, what is notable, about the beats per minute of this song.Kaiguy (talk) 20:25, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will direct you to 4_Minutes_(Madonna_song)#Composition. I can literally list you 500 GA and FA's that include BPM and similar things. Why does this matter to you so much? - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 20:45, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Found the page, please read Wikipedia:SONG, the guideline for writing music articles. "Key signature" is listed as something that should be included. The articles you listed may not include this information as it may not be available. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 20:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't particularly matter to me - it's something of a pet peeve when I see song articles with the beats per minute (this is not the first) as if that were an intentional part of the composition. I just don't think that it's notable. I don't think it adds anything to the article. I don't think anyone who reads this page will have their understanding of the song enriched by this information. So I came to the discussion page and asked if it was important. So, I don't think it's notable, and think it should be deleted, you think it is notable, and shouldn't. I'm willing to leave the status quo at this point, and not remove the information.Kaiguy (talk) 00:19, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair articles which are GA often contain technical information, of which the BPM is classified. If this article aspires to be an FA it most certainly would need even more technical details such as the software used to master the song. Thus I have to say this is the first time I've seen someone object to the addition of BPM info. Whilst it might not enrich your reading experience of the article it may enrich someone else's. The whole point of making wikipedia more encyclopaedic is to include more technical and precise information than "its an uptempo song". Wikipedia is not a blog... its more technical than that with GA and FA articles. Admittedly some articles do fall below standards but BMP is hardly un-notable. Its part of the composition of the song and thus an important part of the article if information about it is available. -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 00:34, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

Good work, I'll pass now. Adabow (talk · contribs) 22:44, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • Mention release and recording details in body of article
  • Sometimes Lukasz Gottwald, sometimes Dr. Luke. Be consistent.
    • I use Lukasz Gottwald twice in the article, once in the Lead and once under Credits, this is so the full name is known.
  • "Other critics felt the song was a strong, irresistible dance pop song strictly made for the dance floor with a great carefree message" - comma after 'dance pop song'
    •  Done
  • Link dance pop. Auto-tune can be linked earlier than it is.
    •  Done

Writing and inspiration

[edit]
  • This section is quite short. Can I suggest you merge this with the 'Composition' section?
  • '"Take It Off" was written by Kesha, alongside Dr. Luke, and Claude Kelly.' - don't need a comma after Dr. Luke
    • Both issues done.

Composition

[edit]
  • The header for the audio sample would be better as "Take It Off". Regardless, the title should be enclosed by quote marks.
    •  Done
  • The file is currently reading as 130kbps. Is this the same problem as you had with "Baby"?
    • Audio is lower then original, the Audiowhatever wont let me lower it anymore. Myself and Candyo had the same issue with Baby.
  • "Music reviewer Bill Lamb, commented on..." - don't need a comma after Bill Lamb
    •  Done
  • "Lamb further commented that the lyrics drew similar reference to that of Lady Gaga's commenting," → Lamb further commented that the lyrics were to those of Lady Gaga's, commenting,
  • What about the lyrics are similar to Gaga's?
    • "Lamb further commented that the lyrics drew similar reference to that of Lady Gaga's commenting, "followers of Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour will be familiar with this point of view [about free expression].""

Critical reception

[edit]
  • "He was concerned with the overall lyrical depth and over use of auto-tune but he" - over-use should be hyphenated, comma after auto-tune
    •  Done
  • with the volume turned up and the chorus encouraging you to "take it off," - a quote in a quote should have inverted commas, not two sets of quote marks
  • "He commented on the choice of the single noting" - comma after 'single'
    •  Done
  • "He went on the give the single" → to give the single
    • Whoopsies,  Done
  • Link BBC
    •  Done

Chart performance

[edit]
  • I have spotted inconsistencies between this section, the table, and references. Please check all chart positions are accurate throughout.
    • Oops, there was issues with New Zealand in Chart performance, has now been corrected.  Done
  • Ref 10 would look better at end of sentence
    •  Done
  • Link Billboard Hot 100
    •  Done
  • "In Canada, the song ascended and descended the chart for twelve weeks before finally dropping off the chart. On July 13, 2010, the song re-entered..." - give a date when the song first dropped off
  • four-teen should be fourteen
    •  Done
  • Is there a reason why you omit the NZ cert?
    • Was certified after i nominated, didnt think to add it.  Done

Music videos

[edit]
  • Is there only one review of the first video?
    • All i could find unfortunately.
  • Your main source for the second video has a review which is not discussed in the article
    • Yes, but i dont use his for reviews on anything, good for composition and stuff but he's not very neutral, i have yet to read a review where he doesnt call her a drunk slut or something. His reviews arn't neural, if it wasnt published by NYC holding i wouldnt include it at all.

Live performances

[edit]
  • NBC and Today Show need linking. Today Show needs italics (note: it is called Today or The Today Show, not Today Show)
    •  Done

Credits and personnel

[edit]
  • Links?
    •  Done? i think, trying to avoid overlinking

References

[edit]
[edit]
  • Mention that the video is at VEVO
    • Not needed, its just a link to the video :)

Genre-Change

[edit]

I have tried twice to add "Electro-House" to the genre list. I don't see why this counts as "disruptive editting". The song's use of a 4/4 rhythm and deep bass compressions make it very similiar to electro-house. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BASS RABBT (talkcontribs) 03:32, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You need a reliable source to back up your claim or its original research and your WP:POV. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 03:35, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Concert image

[edit]

I added an image from the performance of "Take It Off" from the tour. I remember that she did that whole pose while performing the song, and this video can also be watched for confirmation (7:00 onwards). Pancake (talk) 19:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also this image was taken two minutes later (according to the exif info), and since the first image was taken during the song's breakdown, two minutes later, another song would have been performed. According to this review (I know it might not be super reliable, but it's just to source a set list) for the show the picture was taken at, that song was "Blow" :) (The set list appears to have changed a few times) So, she is performing "Blow". Pancake (talk) 19:16, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind that whole "Blow" thing! It appears that the pictures were not actually taken on September 10, 2011. I'm sure about "Take It Off", however :) Pancake (talk) 19:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Original

The song is inspired by the melody "The Streets of Cairo, or the Poor Little Country Maid", also known as "The snake charmer song", is used in the Mickey Mouse's short "Magician Mickey" (1937) WalterWhite--79.9.91.220 (talk) 15:50, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
