Let's ditch the word Yiddish word "schmaltzy".

1)Why? 2)Suggested replacement description? Wondering, -- Infrogmation 00:26, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is he Jewish? If so, he should be listed in the category Jewish-American entertainers.

Ed (talk) 23:41, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Considering that his real name was "Friedman", a common German-Jewish name and that even the article describes his Jewish funeral with the officiating Rabbi, I think it's safe to assume he was Jewish and I agree he should be listed in that category. I will do that if no one else does. Ed (talk) 00:16, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Considering the categories that include Jewish-American Entertainers, I' not at all sure where to add him and in what time period.[reply]

This article is too opinion based.

[edit]

I am by no means a great writer or editor but I do believe that whoever wrote this let too much of their personal distaste slip into the article. I am afraid I would do the opposite and not in such a well written way. This article is sort of a critics review of a history with sort of backhanded jabs and personal opinions that need not be here. They may ad colour but this isn't necessarily the forum for that. ---- T — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.104.192.34 (talk) 00:53, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I have just tagged the article for lacking neutrality, after toning down one passage about a band "clumsily" trying to imitate. It's full of evaluations of his ability that require attribution. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:51, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For example, in contrast to the claim he "could do little more than trill" in his 1917 recordings, this book page, while saying he perhaps relied too much on trills, refers to him as the star of the recording and his solos as "virtuosic". I suspect the claims of "corniness" are similarly one-sided. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:39, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Needs more sourcing

[edit]

I agree with the person who said that this article is too opinionated--it sounds more like a magazine article than an encyclopedia article. Also, it seems to have been written mostly from the author's personal knowledge, which is impressive, but not the way Wikipedia is supposed to work. There should be more source citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.179.165 (talk) 17:19, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More Dates from Autobiography

[edit]

Years active stated as 1913-1971, but in an autobiography from 1955, Ted states:

″Incidentally this is my 45th anniversary in Show Business, in Real Show Business, of course I’ve had quite a few little previews before I got into show business and also my 40th Wedding Anniversary, to the same lovely lady, Lots of guys cant’s say that in this business, of course that’s Mrs. Lewis’s fault she’s so wonderful, she’s my manager, she does everything for me, and my wonderful secretary Mrs. Goodman who has been with us 19 or 20 years and it’s a very high compliment for me to be on Monitor and I know the folks won’t know what they’re going to hear until they hear it and I hope that it’ll be interesting enough that they’ll - - - - - - - - - - - - -″

So, if the date of 1955 is correct:

By his own account, he considered his real show business start at 40 years before 1955 which would be sometime around 1915.

It's stated currently in the wikipedia article that he was married in 1915, so if he wrote that in 1955 his wife and he were celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary, that would match.

That would mean that Mrs. Goodman started working for them in 1935-1936.

There are also number of other interesting facts and dates from that biography which could enrich this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.13.70.72 (talk) 10:59, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
