The text says that this album was released in 2002, but the little table with the artwork in it says that it was released November 1st, 2005. Amazon says that the original release date was March 26th, 2002 as does CD Universe. I've edited this. It also listed that it was the re-issue, but I clicked on the link for the original issue. I changed that in the artwork table.

The second paragraph of the article deals exclusively with one song, which is not a single. I propose that we either delete that information, or create a page exclusively for the song that it discusses. It is not relevant to the discussion of the album as a whole. @Czar: sorry for not noticing this, but as you can see, the article was promoted within a month of that anniversary. Excessive background

This article is about the band's first studio album. It is not about the band forming, or the band's changing lineup in their early years. That stuff belongs at the main band page. For instance, we don't need to know that "Longo treated Nolan as family and was adamant he be included." Longo wasn't even part of this album. His name could be erased from the background section (along with DeJoseph) and the reader would be fine with it.

The Featured Article candidacy of this album shows Wehwalt saying that the background section was excessive, and unfortunately it's still true, especially with more and more peripheral stuff getting packed in there recently by MusicforthePeople. If the reader wants detail about the band's early years, they should go to the band bio page. Binksternet (talk) 06:57, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

If Wehwalt still had a problem with the section, they probably wouldn't have offered support. It's normal for background sections on albums to be about that long on an album this important to its scene; on debut albums, a lot of what you removed is relevant background information. It is, however, still possible this is a little bloated, but I'd have preferred you brought the concern here first. The one example you provided is a good example of a cut, but the section looks too short once the prune happened, and I'm hoping some of this can be retained. dannymusiceditor ^oops 17:07, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

I thought it was still a bit long but it was acceptable when I supported. It does seem to have expanded more recently. I'm dubious the material on the band's name is germane. Wehwalt (talk) 18:47, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

My suggestions:

• Cut the "Longo treated Nolan as family..." line
• Cut DeJoseph being unable to tour, but keep the second part about waiting for replacement
• Cut the bit about Lazzara driving to practice with them
• Cut the "I remember getting..." quote
• Cut Cooper's debut show being on New Year's Eve

Yes, that sounds reasonable. Rather than talk about cutting, I would approach this fresh with the idea of building the section up from what is important background information. Here are the important facts lead to this album:

• Guitarist Eddie Reyes started the band in November 1999 in Amityville, New York, with people he knew from the hardcore scene. (Cut out all of his other bands.)
• The original members were (list them).
• Lacey was bassist for a few months but quit after a personal insult from Nolan. He carried a grudge against Nolan to his new band Brand New, which soured into a long-running feud between the bands.
• In December 2000 the band changed members, and Lazzara switched from bass to lead vocals, learning all the songs. New bass player Cooper.
• Demo recording in early 2001. Touring with Northstar.
• Multiple label offers later in 2001, including one from Triple Crown Records, who were apprehensive as they had just signed Brand New. (Apprehensive because of feud, or because the two bands might cut into each other's sales?)
• Signed with Victory in Dec 2001, and immediately started recording this album in New Jersey.

We don't need to name other labels besides Triple Crown and Victory, or name A&R people, or name the band's friend Michele. We don't even need to name Victory's founder Brummel until later when the album is being promoted by him. Binksternet (talk) 23:40, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

Two paragraphs with 300 words is certainly better than three paragraphs with 550 words. In that sense I would agree your version is more acceptable. More tightening is possible. Binksternet (talk) 13:33, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

I like this, with a couple exceptions: keep the mention of Reyes' association with the Movielife, and maybe Lacey's connection with the other two bandmates. Also probably worth highlighting is that Lazzara drove from North Carolina to New York just to practice with them in hopes of joining. I've come across some info that changes the chronology a bit: from a news post dated June 20, 2001, Fadeaway Records announced they would be releasing Taking Back Sunday's debut album later that year, with the band aiming to record it that fall. The label, which has released the debut from the Movielife, is co-run by Michael Dubin and Neil Rubenstein, the latter of whom became Taking Back Sunday's touring manager and sung backing vocals on some of the tracks on the album. Pure speculation on my part here, but I'm assuming this was some form of gentlemen's agreement, rather than a legally contracted plan as this label wasn't mentioned in the Alt Press oral history.
