Founding of the band

[edit]

Maybe someone who follows the band could rewrite the history here. Jolie Holland is listed on the infobox as a "former memeber," but leaves her out of the history. Am I correct that the band was initially Holland and one of the others? -MrFizyx (talk) 19:20, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've been planning to revamp and expand this article, but the only progress I've made so far is collecting sources. I'll check when I have time, but the history is kind of vague. What I recall is Sam and Frazey met near Nelson, British Columbia in a tree planting camp. I think they parted ways and Frazey later met Trish, who was studying at Selkirk Music college in Nelson. A few years later, they all were in Vancouver and started playing together. Whether Jolie Holland was in Vancouver is something I'm not sure of. I know Jolie and Sam's friendship goes back a while, but I'm not sure if Jolie was ever really in the band, or just sang on a couple of the songs on the first album.
I think Sam explains some of the history after they play the song here [1]. It's still unclear though --CutOffTies (talk) 19:31, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, what we have here seems to contradict what is posted at Allmusic. So any corrections and sources would be good. -MrFizyx (talk) 05:29, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here's some more info Interview with Jolie..wow. and a nicer interview with Sam [2] --CutOffTies (talk) 19:37, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For reasons that are not all that clear to me, I happen to have on my computer a programme on radio KCRW which has details of how they started, including Jolie Holland being a 'fourth member' ("there was a fourth original member, who was quite instrumental in us all getting together"), so I'll edit that in (the programme concerned is still on the KCRW web site and you'll find it with a search -- it's the Mar 31 2003 item. There isn't any mention of at what point Jolie H separated from the rest). But I see there's a reference giving details on the Jolie Holland page so I'll add that instead (or both maybe). (update) I found that ref 1 actually included a link to the bio so I just updated the link on the article page to go directly to it. I also by the way added 'and originally Jolie Holland' to the article to make the situation clearer.--Brian Josephson (talk) 13:00, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 2 external links on The Be Good Tanyas. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

[edit]

Someone has done an edit which removed the picture of Sam with Jolie which I added recently. I believe the intention was to provide a gallery link which would go to it, but there seems to be an error with the code, and all you see is the text </gallery>. Can someone fix this? --Brian Josephson (talk) 07:30, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'll revert the history section to how it was before anonymous user 70.79.100.48 started messing with it, unless someone produces good reason for not doing so. --Brian Josephson (talk) 08:49, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wax expansive, please

[edit]

This is still a 'start class' page, so most any additions which can be ref'd would help; e.g. are all members from Vancouver? I wish I could assist, I was unaware they existed. rags (talk) 19:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of tag?

[edit]

Hi folks, just wondering if the tag can be removed from this article now? I have filled some of the gaps needing citations and added some more references, tidying up those that were dead. What do others think? I will wait and see the responses and let the page sit for week or so before going back and looking at it again. Realitylink (talk) 02:43, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Realitylink, looks good to me! I've gone ahead and removed the tag. Thanks for putting in the work! Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 03:48, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.Realitylink (talk) 04:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok so the tag is back because that reference was dodgy. Maybe that section of text needs to be removed? I don't think it would change the quality of the article too much?Realitylink (talk) 23:05, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it can go now??Realitylink (talk) 00:22, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
