Defence of Article's Significance[edit]

This article refers to the pioneering sole UK provider of education for students with learning difficulties and disabilities that is based around the use of the horse as an educational and therapeutic tool. This article exists because it is believed that such a unique approach merits considerable interest. There is already general coverage on Wikipedia of what is misleadingly labelled “therapeutic horseback riding”, but this focuses on its work for those with physical problems, whilst there is a dearth of coverage of its equally important use for those with learning difficulties, despite this being a well documented purpose of “therapeutic riding” in both the professional and popular media.

Wikipedia states that “if a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article”^[1] This article meets these criteria because:

1. Articles have been run on the organisation in the national press (e.g. The Sunday Times, 2003), as well as other nationally recognised publications (e.g. Country Life magazine).

2. There is a considerable volume of online material referring to it and to its work: A search for “The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy” yields 29,400 hits, whilst a very specific search for “ "The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy" ” [complete with the quotation marks] still yields an impressive 684 results.
