Book
[edit]This article should really be about the book, with a separate article about film adaptations (of which there is another). This would seem to fit more with encyclopedia style. Any thoughts? Ww.ellis 03:21, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you want to write the article about the book and the earlier film adaptation, feel free to move this article to "The Painted Veil (2006 film)" and create another "The Painted Veil (xxxx film)" and use this one for the book itself. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 04:12, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Did the book take place in Hong Kong? Why did they change it to Shanghai for the film? --Mathew5000 11:15, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- The book takes place in Victoria not Hong Kong, a fictional British colony possibly much like Hong Kong. Vincent (talk) 05:33, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Plot
[edit]The Plot Summary of "The Painted Veil" should have a Spoiler Alert. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.208.216.35 (talk • contribs) 23:27, July 1, 2007
- Check out WP:SPOILER. Plot sections, titled as they are, obviously will contain plot details. You shouldn't need to be warned. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 11:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
I deleted some original research and flagged the plot section as in need of references. The style needs work as well. See WP:OR, WP:CITE, [WP:STYLE]]Trilobitealive (talk) 00:12, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
The plot is the book plot, not the plot of this film. Where was it pasted from? Neutron230 (talk) 20:41, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Soundtrack
[edit]This film is heavily dependent (IMO) on the musical score. While it doesn't necessarily make sense to copy the whole track listing from the album, would it make sense to add notes about a couple of the pieces, such as Gnossienne No. 1 and River Waltz? ~dom Kaos~ (talk) 13:56, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Naomi Watts
[edit]It makes no sence to include Ed Norton's (supposed) comment that Naomi Watts was approved for the role after her success in two mentioned films...THESE proved her commercial viability??? Two pics few have/had heard about? Perhaps her skills as an actress (I personally didn't see either film), but certainly not her box office potential! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.125.228.229 (talk) 18:00, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- 71.125.228.229, The New York Times wrote, "It was also Mr. Norton’s idea to enlist Ms. Watts for the part of Kitty, and that proved to be the deal clincher, but only after Ms. Watts became a bankable star with 'Mulholland Drive' and '21 Grams.'" I do not think this is hard to believe. Both films grossed at the box office more than they cost, with 21 Grams grossing a bit more. Watts was also nominated for Best Actress for the latter film. That means they could advertise this film as having Academy Award nominees, plural. Erik (talk | contribs) 19:55, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
