Quote at the end

[edit]

"If someone offers you a little bit of money, do not risk selling yourself for the extra pennies, the only money in life is available through hard effort, which is where the common saying, If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, derived from, keep watching, keep learning, do not fool yourselves, next time on the real hustle...."

Does anyone have a source for this quote? I don't remember it being this long. From my recollection it was something along the lines of: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is", and didn't have the rambling beginning and end. The quote above (taken from the end of the article) reads as if some wikipedia editors have inserted extra clauses into the sentence —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.40.24.189 (talk) 11:28, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Objective Productions website (http://www.objectiveproductions.net) refers to the latest special as The Real Hustle 'Winter Special' - is this its actual title..? --J-- 09:28, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'Critics'

[edit]

Unless some references can be found for actual criticism that this programme has received for being take or giving people ideas, I'm going to remove that entire section. Please note that 'proof' of it being fake (like the reference just added) isn't the same as showing that it's received criticism, and a blog post is not considered a reliable source for Wikipedia (see: WP:SELFPUB. The tags requesting clean-up have been on that section for quite a while, and I think it's time to either fix it or lose it. Wibbble 22:53, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's been well over a month and there's been nothing to back up the claims in the criticism section, so I've removed it. I don't think it should be reinstated without suitable references for the claims - specifically that there's claims that it's all fake and gives real criminals ideas. Wibbble 00:22, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see the now removed text but there's a report on BBC.co.uk about a man who tried to copy a scam seen on the show: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/6601855.stm Mr Goodbyte 16:18, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously though , what is up with the references being links to some forum site? I think it is all right to keep the part about the newspaper articles and BBC issuing an investigation, but the forum parts look like mere self-promotion, really. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.103.67.150 (talk) 22:03, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'Stooge-tastic'

[edit]

I like the show, but it's obviously full of stooges and fake 'setups'. I don't doubt most of the scams are based on real scams, but plenty of the filmed ones are obviously fake. They go to the bother of setting up 'hidden' cameras in enclosed spaces, but then a proper TV camera pans around the place, or they have close up high quality shots that aren't possible without the person knowing they're being filmed. The guy's blog photos (including the one with the TV camera directly behind where he was 'conned') make this obvious. The show's claims that all filmed scams involve unaware members of the public are misleading.

I know what you mean. On yesterday's show (S04E04) the mark that Paul was playing gin with was a very memorable contestent from Balls Of Steel (The Alex Zane Lying Game segment). Hmmm. (PseudoNym, not logged in) 89.243.232.105 12:53, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The show has plenty of fake parts. I was an extra for scenes in Gatwick Airport (series 1, episode 2 - although one of the scenes was cut). In the sequence where the "mark" has his laptop stolen at the x-ray scanner, every single person is fake. The queue (unfortunately I was way at the back and didn't end up being visible) and security are all extras, and the mark is an actor. If I was a reliable source, I'd add it to the article. — Hex (❝?!❞) 21:16, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They go back and tell the marks they've been scammed. They might ask them to re-enact it for them. 90.212.207.1 (talk) 19:32, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not when I took part in it. — Hex (❝?!❞) 12:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re-reverted

[edit]

I added this back in, hope you don't mind. The author did post the link via an anonymous proxy, but that's simply because he's the original author of the scam text and doesn't want his IP address listed on wikipedia. If you watch the video of the scam and compare it to the original tourist bag scam text you'll see that they are identical. The earliest reference I could find was at the creation of DIzzIE's website in 2004, here. Bitplane 03:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm reverting this as WP:OR and not relevant to the article. I'm not saying that this isn't accurate information, it's just not appropriate for the article. Wibbble 06:40, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I get it, basically Diz would need to publicly accuse the show of plagurising his work so it's not original research, then this could be linked to? I don't see how it wouldn't be relevant to the article if this were the case, I would say it's a relevant piece of trivia. Are you saying you'll continue to oppose it even if the accusation of plagurism is made on the same site that hosted the original material? Bitplane 01:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Basically, yeah. If there was an accusation of plagiarism then that could be mentioned, although WP:RS would come into play in determining what is a 'reliable source'. It doesn't really matter if the accusation of plagiarism comes from the same site that has the 'proof' - what you'd add into the article is the accusation, not the proof. It's not wikipedia's business to prove anything. Wibbble 08:08, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds reasonable, I'll let him know. Bitplane 19:18, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Running jokes

[edit]

is it worth mentioning some of the running gags like, their fake companies are always called TRH for the real hustle and season 1 episode2 the talent agents name was Frank Abagnale--Numberwang 01:54, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also in this category would be their typical aliases: "I. Steel", "Rob Marks", and "Sue Windle". Agw00 (talk) 07:55, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

12 Scams of Christmas

On the list, I can only count eleven... (Pseudonym, not logged in) 89.243.232.105 12:55, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's exactly what the 12th scam is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.169.128.52 (talk) 12:53, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Series 4

[edit]

How long will this series go on for? (PseudoNym, not logged in) 89.243.238.205 00:48, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind I found out it's 12 episodes

Split episode guide

[edit]

The episode guide is getting pretty long. Do you think we should split it from the rest of the article? Pelago 19:50, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but don't have a clue how to do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.98.150.154 (talk) 23:29, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its getting long and the TOC is suffering for it. Unless we're going to create articles for each episode, they really shouldn't be in the main article, especially not as separate headings like.--Crossmr (talk) 07:31, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I finally got around to splitting the episode guide over to List of The Real Hustle episodes.--Pelago (talk) 22:46, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further info

[edit]

Someone wanna add this in their own words?

"The participants featured in The Real Hustle have either been set up by their family and friends or believe that they are taking part in a different type of programme. After they have been hustled for real, any monies or property taken during the hustle are returned to them and their consent for the item to be broadcast is obtained so that viewers can avoid being ripped off by the same scam." from here http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/programmes/real_hustle/

Tru TV?

[edit]

I just saw an advertisement for TRH on TRU(court) TV. It seemed to have 3 different people than the BBC version. The scams are exactly the same as the BBC version. someone should add a section or create a new article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.172.95 (talk) 00:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor rewording

[edit]

I am going to change ""The Real Hustle" has been accused of itself being a fake" - it sounds crappy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.68.101.11 (talk) 01:13, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
