British vs English?[edit]

Most things, people, groups, organisations etc are listed by the (sovereign) country they are from, aren't they?

Sub-national regions, constituent countries etc can be confusing for people who are not familiar with the (correct) nomenclature.

Two random examples are Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and The Smashing Pumpkins, both of which are described as "American" (although "American" should probably be wikilinked to USA), and not Floridian or Illinoisan. Please change the final sentence "The band performed at the 2023 Conservative Party conference in Manchester on the 3 October 2023.[citation needed]" to read "The band's performance at the 2023 Conservative Party conference in Manchester on 3 October 2023 was listed by the Independent under "Five of the strangest moments from the Tory Conference"^[1]. Partly done: In my opinion the suggested language would be WP:UNDUE, particularly given that the section has a banner about excessive detail. pretty much the only reason this made news was the "outrage" that "the band was performing for one political party of particular views to people" - i dont think it serves the readers to not have the context that it was /not/ "toploader supports tories" but rather a "toploader was working with a 'music advocate' group in generating support for the music industry across the whole political spectrum" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.220.13.29 (talk) 20:31, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The concert hasn't happened yet and this reference actually mentions the Labour Party, unlike the one you supplied. The article will be much easier to write once both performances are over so I don't really want to touch it for now. I only have this article on my watchlist to combat vandalism.
