English Version?

[edit]

The Filipino version of UP Naming Mahal is well-known, but does anyone have a copy of the English version? Tito Pao 19:07, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Stanza

[edit]

I remember running across an old copy of the hymn lying around the Vanguard building ages ago and memorizing it. Can anyone check if the following stanza actually existed:

Echo the watchword, the red and green forever. Give out the password, to the Hall of brave sons rare. Sing forth the message, ring out with courage All hail, thou hope of our dear land. All hail, thou hope of our dear land. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.97.10.51 (talk) 18:15, August 30, 2007 (UTC) Yes, indeed there was. It can found here : [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.60.243.115 (talk) 12:55, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Raised Fist: Left or Right?

[edit]

According to certain professors in the University of the Philippines, the proper way of salutation for the song is through raising the LEFT fist. The origin is ambiguous, some stating that it is to reflect the status of U.P. as a progressive and radical university (left of the political spectrum), some stating that it is to avoid disrespect to the flag (before the Philippines adapted the Roosevelt salute(right hand over heart), the Philippine Flag was saluted with the right fist raised). Since UP doesn't include teaching the proper way of singing the hymn in the curriculum, many students are unaware of how it is done (some students even graduating without memorizing the song by heart), so raising the right hand is the prevalent, although incorrect .

As of now, U.P. still doesn't regulate to teach the proper way of singing the hymn, and it is not a common subject matter around the campus, so finding sources for citation is still somewhat impossible. Nejibana17 (talk) 12:21, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

As the outcome of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/U.P. Naming Mahal has gone stale, I will now convert this article into a redirect unless someone wants to step into the aforementioned discussion and make a case for retaining it as a standalone article before closure.
