UPE?[edit]

@Rosguill: Hey there, looking at this edit, and specifically "Rosguill moved page Draft:Umera Ahmad to Umera Ahmad without leaving a redirect: UPE suspicion appears to be mistaken, restoring article", I know I'm asking you to remember something from a month ago, but it seems to me that this article was created multiple times before at Umera Ahmed and seems to refer to the same person, and there may have been a bad-faith effort to rename the subject to slide under the radar. Does that change anything in your view? Best to you, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:36, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cyphoidbomb, this article was created by an editor participating in a WikiGap contest to write biographies about women from Pakistan. This contest meant that they were writing 1-2 BLPs per day, which struck me as suspicious. I was only informed about the contest after I had draftified all of their work. A WikiGap coordinator personally vouched for the editor, so I reversed the decision. signed, Rosguill talk 04:47, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosguill: I did see the WikiGap thing. Something's not sitting right with me here, because 90% of the references seem to say "Ahmed, but somehow this was built in an ad space, and I notice this user moving it. So maybe the aroma I'm picking up on is related to that effort. Anyway, please note that I'm not criticising you in any way. Regards and happy new year, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:02, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cyphoidbomb, that editor was the WikiGap coordinator who reached out to me. Here's the metawiki page for it. I also noted that the list of suggested articles (which includes this article) included everybodywiki pages as a suggested resource for a few subjects, so it's possible that even some well-meaning editors may have harvested content from the prior efforts of paid editors. signed, Rosguill talk 05:11, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
