Holy See recognition[edit]

This is a topic neglected in the Underground church article. What formal status do the underground churches have? In England, there was a formal structure for many years, even though Catholicism was illegal. Is there a similar mechanism in China? Are they recognized as dioceses? Are bishops given titular sees?
