Merge not redirect

[edit]

I placed a merge request to replace the redirect. Please don't redirect if they are different topics. I don't really feel they should merge but they shouldn't be redirected either.--Jondel 00:49, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merged. Famousdog 14:54, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should be titled "Visual prosthesis"

Isn't iridium oxide an insulator? What purpose do these obvious errors serve? 83.4.252.195 14:40, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a problem with the article as written, then change it. If you have a problem with the title, then redirect the page. That's how wikipedia works, you know! Famousdog 21:22, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Iridium oxide is maybe approximately an insulator (I'm not sure), but only a thin layer is used on the electrode which is probably made ion selective by this. I don't know the resistivity of iridium oxide, but it doesn't need to be low if the layer is thin enough (and very thin layers sometimes show resistivities different from bulk material). Pictures

[edit]

If anyone has any pictures that could give us an idea of what sort of vision these devices can give, that would be useful.--RLent (talk) 20:46, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I imagine you could simulate what somebody wearing these devices would perceive, but such examples would be meaningless. Perception isn't a picture in your head. I'd check out the references for each device. Maybe they have been simulated already. Famousdog (talk) 16:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ethical issues

[edit]

The "Ethical Issues" Section must go. It is one-sided and opinionated.

C'mon and mention Geordi LaForge! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.47.121.35 (talk) 18:15, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Word. The Cap'n (talk) 18:52, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "Ethical Issues" section as the content sounded more like "The Politics of Research Funding". If someone wants to write about actual ethical issues I suggest waiting a few years to see if the blind community reacts to bionic eyes in the same way as some in the deaf community have reacted to cochlear implants. --94.22.119.188 (talk) 13:49, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Argus retinal prosthesis was implanted for first time in a patient with Macular degeneration

Dobelle Eye

[edit]

Can someone clarify what is the status of the Dobelle Eye? The article text says that it was donated to a research team, but does not specify what team, and this was now a decade ago. Has there been progress on the eye?ParticipantObserver (talk) 17:55, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
