Pelley's hatred of Jews

[edit]

Read the following before making this edit:

http://www.come-and-hear.com/supplement/pelley.html (CAUTION: THIS SITE ADVOCATES PELLEY'S VIEWS) http://toto.lib.unca.edu/findingaids/mss/pelley/pelley_william_dudley.htm http://www.livingston.net/wilkyjr/link2.htm

Also, according to Michael Barkun (RELIGION AND THE RACIST RIGHT, Univ. of North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1994), Pelley believed that Jews were literally descended from Satan. Advocacy of this sort of hatred was the centerpiece of his career.

Bias

[edit]

The tone of this article is much too emotional, and attributes motives to FDR and others without evidence.

Published References

[edit]

This is information from the following journal article, please use to perhaps re-write portions of the Pelley listing.

Henry Schwartz, "The Silver Shirts: Anti-Semitism in San Diego, 1930-1940," 26(1) Western States Jewish History, October 1992, pp.52-60.

"Pelley... moved to Southern California in 1928. Started his own advertising agency, sold real estate, published a magazine and wrote scenarios and novels that would later be made into motion pictures." 4th novel entitled "Golden Rubbish" introduced his political ideas. Article mentions Pelley throughout and is a reliable source. August 1935 Congressional Hearing by a Special Committee of the House on Un-American Activities Commission met in LA to look into Silver Shirt activities in Southern California may be another good source to expound on this subject. This citation is not entirely accurate. Pelley divided most of this time between New York and California during the early and middle 1920s, so stating that he "moved to Southern California" is misleading since it gives the impression that he was not already spending significant (most) of his time there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.143.226.138 (talk) 07:48, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there so much about that? AnonMoos (talk) 20:32, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

Much of this article is very POV and needs clean-up. Despicable people are entitled to fair articles. Collect (talk) 11:38, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The tag should be added only where specific criticisms of the article exist on the talk page. I am removing it for now. - Crosbiesmith (talk) 08:21, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't buy the line about the Bush family being supportive of his ideology. Not even Prescott Bush. ----DanTD (talk) 21:34, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki article quality

[edit]

As it stands right now this article is low-quality, with some surprising omissions that look sloppy. Right now, for example, it reads that Pelley was arrested on sedition but fails to mention that he was a defendent in the Brown Scare trial--which being one of the most prominent sedition trials in the United States (ever) i am surprised to learn does not seem to have a wiki entry. Likewise it fails to mention that Pelley served time for violating terms of suspended sentencing. There is also no mention of Pelley's post-war UFOlogy efforts (George Hunt Williamson's earliest UFO writings are in Pelley's magazines), or Pelley's voluminous dabbling in "ancient astronaut" theory as early as 1930, literally decades before Von Daniken and his second-generation clones on the History Channel. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.143.226.138 (talk) 07:57, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You need reliable sources for any claims about the person. And recall also that this is an encyclopedia, not a collection of every factoid available ever published - this article makes clear who Pelley was, and what his positions were. That is really quite enough. Cheers. Collect (talk) 13:42, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia?

[edit]

What's the point or connection of this heading? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.29.14.45 (talk) 03:51, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

American Magazine is mentioned in the top paragraph but it is not linked to the Wiki page of the same name- And for some reason we can no longer edit the top paragraph — Preceding unsigned comment added by 40.140.201.66 (talk) 04:57, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

self citation

[edit]

The article cites this page:

The bottom of this page notes "Bio courtesy of: Wikipedia", so this reference probably ought to be removed.

"America's Adolf Hitler"

[edit]

Shouldn't we add to this article the fact that Pelley said that he was proud of being called America's Adolf Hitler, "because that is what I consider myself"? 204.11.186.190 (talk) 15:38, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
