Michael Mann "L.A." lawsuit
[edit]Is this really true? I've never heard this before; a citation would be nice.-- Sladek 21:34, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I asked that question via the form on Friedkin's web site, and here's his answer. —RandallJones 19:58, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
“ | michael mann and i have been good friends for 30 years....nothing like this ever happened...i've heard this before and it's total bullshit so feel free to debunk it... friedkin |
” |
- The allegation probably rolled downhill from iMDB. It's been attached to the movie's trivia page, and to both Friedkin's and Mann's biographies. —RandallJones 20:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for that! It sounded like buggery to me, and I've never read it anywhere else. IMDB is loaded with mis-information. Sladek 15:33, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
I see that it's still on IMDB.Sladek 17:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Year of birth
[edit]Wikipedias in other languages say he was born in 1935. --Martinwilke1980 13:59, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I read elsewhere (besides IMDB) that he was married to Kelly Lange (a local celebrity in L.A.) and it's on her wiki page. As they were married three years I don't think the marriage was annulled. I've never written on this website and it's second hand knowledge so don't know if I can edit this.
According to the NY Times (29 Jun 1969) he was engaged to be married to Kitty S Hawks, the daughter of Howard Hawks. 72.37.142.122 (talk) 04:21, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Exorcist2000poster.jpg
[edit]Image:Exorcist2000poster.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:32, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Music Videos
[edit]I think there should be a mention of Friedkin's music video credits including Wang Chung's To Live and Die in LA and Laura Branigan's Self Control among others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.167.113.17 (talk) 21:17, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
What about Friedkin's opera direction?
[edit]Why is no mention made of Friedkin's career directing operas? Right now (September 2008) he is directing Il Tabarro and Suor Angelica at Los Angeles Opera. Bhami (talk) 03:51, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Faith???
[edit]The editor/s mention Friedkin being raised in a Jewish home by parents who fled a pogrom, but what is the level of his faith??? In recent years, Friedkin has given many interviews and has talked a lot about the "movie god" --whatever that is???-- smiling down on the "The French Connection". He also frequently says, "God rest his soul" when talking about friends and colleagues who have passed away. It would be interesting to know.User:JCHeverly 16:43, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

'The Boys in the Band', "Gay" vs "Queer"
[edit]Referring to a film about gay men during the 1970s as a piece of "queer" cinema is deeply and intensely homophobic. Queer is a highly contentious term in LGBT communities. Unless you are referring to something that specifically addresses academic Queer Theory then it is advisable to stick to "LGBT" or "Gay", "Lesbian", etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.167.168.22 (talk) 03:00, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Status of "Caine Mutiny"
[edit]The following language seems to have been overtaken by events: "In August 2022, it was announced officially that Friedkin would be returning to film directing to helm an adaptation of the two-act play The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial with Kiefer Sutherland starring as Lt. Commander Queeg. The film will debut in the out-of-competition category at the Venice Film Festival." Someone with knowledge of the situation ought to go in there and update. Is it mentioned in any of the recent obits? Ishboyfay (talk) 19:18, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, my comment was made before I realized the film actually has been completed. So maybe only a tiny change is needed, to the effect of "Film was completed before his death." Ishboyfay (talk) 19:24, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
