First animal day
[edit]According to the dutch article (See: nl:Dierendag) the first animal day was before 1931. Can someone sort this out? Sander.v.Ginkel (talk) 14:12, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
Copyright problem removed
[edit]Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://www.worldanimalday.org.uk/about-2/. Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Voceditenore (talk) 08:58, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- I have just removed another attempt to over-write the article with copyright material from http://www.worldanimalday.org.uk/about_us plus very closely paraphrased material from http://naturewatch.org/press/article/happy-world-animal-day. Please note also that even if all the text were released under a free license, Wikipedia will not publish promotional material. Voceditenore (talk) 15:29, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Undersourced and too superficial
[edit]This article is undersourced, too superficial, and way too Eurocentric because it does not list the US and other international pro-animal observances on October 4, nor the context of (a) World Week of Prayer for Animals (entire first week of October), (b) World Farm Animals Day (October 2) on Gandhi's birthday, (c) Vegetarian month (all of October) - a.k.a. Reverence for Life month (in two senses: the prolife sense[1] AND the sense of St. Francis of Assisi)., and (d) all the food-related dates surrounding October 4th that point toward reverencing animals as persons, not as food. See World Vegetarian Day. MaynardClark (talk) 01:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

[edit]@RyanCW743: it's quite unacceptable that you removed references and removed illustrations when you added the World Animal Day Grant Winners. I don't think it's appropriate to fill half the article with this award's winners. The award's website can do that itself. Please use the "cite" button in the interface in future to insert references that use citation templates and don't remove citations that use a template. 1Veertje (talk) 10:42, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- @1Veertje: Good morning, thank you for your feedback. I am new to wikipedia and genuinely believed the edits were suitable according to policy as they are supported by external sources. I understand your point about the awards in that there was too much space dedicated to them. Are you able to guide me in how best I can update the wiki page on this topic as everything was reverted back to its original state and my other work has been lost, so I would like to clarify any other issues before I continue to make edits. I had made the edits in the hope that more people would learn about World Animal Day in more depth as it took place on the 4th October and hadn't meant to cause a problem. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you. RyanCW743 RyanCW743 (talk) 09:39, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
- The sources you provided were all primary: Naturewatch talking about Naturewatch. Those aren't appropriate for a tertiary source like an encyclopedia. Wikipedia isn't the place for publicizing information no third party has shown an interest in. I'm pretty sure you're Ryan O'Mara, World Animal Day ambassador for Naturewatch. That makes this conflict of interest editing that isn't welcome. 1Veertje (talk) 09:48, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

[edit]A table with the yearly themes Naturewatch Foundation will be added as well as a brief list of several countries whose community hosts annual events. Hope these additions improve the article's quality. Here is a link to my sandbox for more visual context. I wanted to add the themes so they are documented in an easily accessible place. @95reasons
