Embassy of the Philippines, Baghdad
- ... that in 2015, diplomats of the Philippine embassy in Baghdad (pictured) signed a suicide pact? Source: "At some point in the embassy’s planning against possible attacks on the chancery in Baghdad, Cato said that he and five fellow diplomats agreed to not allow themselves to be captured, taken hostage and displayed by ISIS before decapitation. 'We all agreed to take our own lives, reserving the last round of the guns issued to us and shoot ourselves in the head,' he said." --The Philippine Star

- Interesting:
- Other problems: - I find the phrase "signed a suicide pact" rather problematic. Firstly, nothing was physically "signed", it just sounds like an informal plan was made not to surrender to ISIL forces at any point and to die if needed instead. "Agreed" is probably better wording (and should also be changed in the article). Secondly, given that we are dealing with living people in this blurb, I'm not sure if giving this bit of information out of context is really appropriate. This was clearly a plan about extreme circumstances, we can't make living people look as if they have mental health problems when clearly this was a very specific plan for an unlikely eventuality. So the blurb needs a bit of context.

- Used in article: - I don't think it's appropriate to have this photo attached to this blurb either - it implies that the diplomats who agreed on the suicide pact are these people, which is very problematic.

QPQ: - Not done
Overall: Good work on an interesting article, I enjoyed reviewing this. Needs QPQ and the concerns above to be addressed. GGT (talk) 21:20, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, GGT! QPQ has been addressed, and I can make some revisions to the hook and article text to take your suggestions into account, to which I'll update this page when those revisions are done. I'd be fine with dispensing with the image as well if it's viewed as being problematic. As for the hook, would this work for an ALT1?
- ALT1... that at the height of the war between Iraq and the Islamic State, diplomats of the Philippine embassy in Baghdad agreed to die together rather than be taken hostage?--Sky Harbor (talk) 17:30, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
