Implicature

  • ... that an implicature might tell you that the nephew of Mrs Jenkins, an old windbag, is standing right behind you? Source: Stephen Levinson, Pragmatics (1983). p 111: "A: I do think Mrs Jenkins is an old windbag, don't you? – B: Huh, lovely weather for March, isn't it?
where B's utterance might implicate in the appropriate circumstances 'hey, watch out, her nephew is standing right behind you'."

  • Article clearly passes the bright-line rules. The hook is well-cited; however, its tone is more of an April Fool's hook rather than a normal hook; do you have any other hooks if you don't want to delay it until then? Sceptre (talk) 13:32, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
  • I really like the hook. I'd rather wait till April 1st than replace it with some boring fact :-) --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 14:39, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
The article is ready for DYK, although it's at the discretion of the closer on whether to run it as an April Fool's hook or not (which both me and the nominator agree it is). Sceptre (talk) 18:06, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
It's a long time till April 1st. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:34, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
