Margarita Gritskova

  • Reviewed: Andantino (ballet)
  • Comment: Carreras should be known beyond opera specialists, either as one of The Three Tenors or for his fight with leukemia. Those who don't know him will not profit from the mezzo's article.

Created by LouisAlain (talk), Grimes2 (talk), and Gerda Arendt (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 14:54, 17 July 2021 (UTC).

  • Article meets DYK requirements, is free from close paraphrasing, and a QPQ has been done. The hook seems too reliant on names that may not be well-known to a general audience (except perhaps Carnegie Hall), can a more broadly-appealing hook be suggested here? Perhaps something about Gritskova's life, or maybe reviews of her career? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:47, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
Did you read my explanation, which I wrote with you in mind? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
"Those who don't know him will not profit from the mezzo's article", which as far as I understand means the hook doesn't work unless people know who Carreras is, which I assume isn't most of our readers. Wouldn't the goal be to make sure that even those who don't know the subject will find the hook interesting? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:34, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
You didn't answer my question. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:35, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
I did, and that was my response to it. You state that you want Carreras to be known for his career or his battle with leukemia, but firstly the nomination is about Gritskova and not Carreras, and secondly neither of those facts are actually in the hook (I should point out that the farewell concert isn't mentioned in Carreras's article, though that won't affect the status of this nomination). I seem to have a language problem. I said that Carreras will be known as one of The Three Tenors, the three tenors who toured worldwide at their time, and were in the press a lot, and attracted masses of not opera lovers but sensation lovers. On top of that he was also in the press for his successful fight with leukemia, which was covered by a different kind of press. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:54, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
I'll add the farewell tour to his article on DYK day. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:55, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
ps: the Carnegie Hall event (+ unmentioned tour, and regardless of his name) also adds to the internationality of her career, coming from Russia, but his name will add extra interest, promised. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:58, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
I've no better hook. ALT0 works well, Carreras is a famous tenor. Grimes2 (talk) 05:22, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
Admittedly I haven't heard of Carreras before and I'm not that familiar with the classical music scene, so I'd like to ask for a second opinion from another editor if Carreras is a well-known enough name to make the hook interesting to a broad audience. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 03:05, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Carreras is famous enough (I'm not much into opera, but The Three Tenors were everywhere in the 1990s). If I could change the hook I'd rather leave out Russia and the Vienna State Opera, leaving just the hooky Carreras reference:
ALT1 ... that mezzo-soprano Margarita Gritskova was the partner of José Carreras for his farewell concert in Carnegie Hall?
I'm not thrilled by the source given, but a quick Google turns up this review, which looks like an independent secondary RS to me. —Kusma (talk) 22:18, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm going ahead and approving Kusma's proposal (I've labeled it as ALT1), and given that two other editors have mentioned that Carreras is a well-known name, I'll defer to their judgement on that. ALT1 goes straight to the point and focuses on the important hook fact, without adding unnecessary details or complicating the hook. Good to go. Have it your way, but please take not that the Russian - Vienna - New York aspect was not meant as unnecessary detail but as attractive to the younger generation who doesn't know Carreras. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:35, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
