Mugeary

[edit]

Created/expanded by Ben MacDui (talk). Self nom at 18:26, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Proposal: This is my best shot for next year so far. Note the cheeky absence of a link to Glenelg, Mars in the last word of the hook. The article probably just about passes muster but I'll continue to work on it - it's a pretty obscure spot. Ben MacDui 18:26, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
Bit long-winded maybe? How about something like this? Prioryman (talk) 23:16, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
These both seem a bit too convoluted to actually be funny. But that's just my personal opinion :P Kaldari (talk) 05:52, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Agreed the first version is to long - a shortened version (ALT2 ) is below. Thanks Kaladar for your candour. However, the rules don't say that the hook has to be funny as such (although the funnier the better for sure) but that it should be "possibly unbelievable to the reader". • Reviewer needed. Note: this is specifically nominated as an April Fools hook, so the five day newness requirement is suspended, though the 1500 prose character minimum is not. (It isn't considered an expansion unless the article existed prior to April 1, 2012.) BlueMoonset (talk) 15:04, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
  • New enough, Long enough, adequately footnoted; I did not detect any copvio or close paraphrasing issues; and the hook fact sourcing checks out. Hook wording clearly has been a challenge. I suggest the revised wording in ALT3 (below); note that I removed some links so that people will have to click on the target article to figure our the joke. This looks good for April Fool's Day!
  • ALT3 ... that Mugeary, which is 25 miles from Glenelg in Scotland, is the namesake of a rock found millions of miles away but just a few hundred feet from Glenelg? --Orlady (talk) 16:41, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the verification and your snappier hook is fine by me. Ben MacDui 19:35, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
