Rudolf Geigy

[edit]
Rudolf Geigy
Rudolf Geigy
  • ... that Rudolf Geigy, known for his work establishing institutes for studying neglected tropical diseases, died by assisted suicide, leading to widespread debate in Switzerland?
    • ALT1:... that Rudolf Geigy established health institutes on two continents and started a foundation that awards scholars who combine field and laboratory work in novel ways?

  • Article is new enough and long enough. I am a bit uncertain what in this source is the actual source text; to me it reads like a directory. I'll AGF on French sources and Google Books. Sources #9 and #10 are apparently unsecured. Both hooks depend on these sources with Firefox does not like, and the first has one superfluous comma, otherwise I don't prefer any of them over the other. Is a QPQ needed? Thanks for your comments, Jo-Jo Eumerus. Good catch with the TWAS link - I copied that citation from another page, and verification must have slipped past me. Added the archive URL. Also added Archive URLs two the two "unsecured" refs, as a way around it.
Could you point out the superfluous comma? I would think the first two separate the clause clarifying Geigy's background, and the one after suicide denotes a natural pause. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
As for QPQ, I fixed the link to the DYK nomination I reviewed. Thank you again for your comments! = paul2520 (talk) 20:30, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Almost done, but #3 source either needs pagenumber-specific citations or some other clue as I can't find Geigy's family history there. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:38, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Good catch! The family history was part of the German wiki article. So I added a source from the article on Geigy's father. And I added page numbers to back-up the career history part. = paul2520 (talk) 21:10, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
who belonged to the family that established Geigy, a major pharmaceutical firm.[3] He studied zoology at Basel and Geneva. In 1938 he became an associate professor of embryology and genetics at the University of Basel. In 1943 he established the Swiss Tropical Institute (now Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute) in Basel where he was a director until 1972 still does not look like it's supported by the sources to me. @Jo-Jo Eumerus: Thanks for being so thorough. I added citations that should have been made (the green text is primarily under reference [2]), and another reference connecting Johann Rudolf Geigy-Merian to the pharmaceutical company. = paul2520 (talk) 21:28, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
