Sebastian Weigle

[edit]
  • Reviewed: Otto Lessing (sculptor)
  • Comment: Please improve wording, he performed so far all four parts of the Ring and will conduct "The Cycle" twice in 2012.

Created/expanded by Dr. Blofeld (talk), Gerda Arendt (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 09:24, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Comment: The source cited states that he was named "Conductor of the Year" but not necessarily for conducting the opera mentioned above. Since you are looking for help with the wording of the hook anyway, how about: "... that the German opera magazine Opernwelt named Sebastian Weigle "Conductor of the Year" three times between 2003 and 2006?" I don't know beans about opera, but it seems to me that being named anything "of the Year" three times by a respected publication is a big enough deal to satisfy the "interesting hook" requirement at DYK. • The opera is special, difficult and therefore rarely performed, but ok, the Ring cycle though is an even major achievement, known by many, and should stay:
ALT1 ... that Sebastian Weigle, named "Conductor of the Year" by the Opernwelt three times between 2003 and 2006, performed Wagner's Ring Cycle at the Frankfurt Opera? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:28, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
I'd say this hook is good-to-go. It flows well, is short enough, and is supported by the sources. Newness and length check out. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 20:43, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
  • I added the ref "frankfurt" to the first naming in 2003, for "Die Frau ohne Schatten", --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:33, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
  • That cite checks out. I didn't doubt the fact to begin with, but checking the cite is part of the DYK process. I think you'll have trouble weaving "Conductor of the Year", the Ring Cycle, and Die Frau ohne Schatten into a coherent hook that is short enough, but if you want to try, I'll give it a look. Otherwise, the hook above can be used as-is. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 20:43, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
  • No thanks, ALT1 is fine with me, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:20, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
