Willie Borsch
[edit]- ... that "Wild Willie" Borsch won an AA/FA national title, at a time when the National Hot Rod Association did not officially have that class?

Overall: created 14 Sep 2018, expanded 19 Sep 2018, 1674 characters (302 words) "readable prose size" at 19 Sep 2018, no longer a stub. Earwig's copyvio fine, AGF with offline source. I am not caught by the hook. It seems to me his one-armed driving style & false arm would be interesting to a broader audience, see suggestions below Find bruce (talk) 12:14, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- ALT1:... that "Wild Willie" Borsch drove his supercharged A Fuel Altered (AA/FA) drag car, Winged Express, with one hand on the wheel to hang on rather than to show off? Sources: NHRA's 50 greatest drivers: Willie Borsch.
- ALT2:... that "Wild Willie" Borsch had a false third arm to maintain the illusion that he was still driving with one hand on the wheel? Sources: I'd give my left arm to own that ....
- ♠I don't disagree, the one-armed style & the fake arm are catchy, but IMO more kitch. For me, the appeal is in the irony of winning a title in a non-existent class (which is kind of a neat trick, like a dead guy narrating a movie).
- ♠What I'm hoping to get with the class hook is more "throughput": from the Main Page DYK to Borsch (where you find the fake arm), to the AA/FAs (for why there's no class to win), & from there (maybe) to a named car page, or maybe one of the driver pages, or maybe TF/FC. (And with any luck, drag racing fans will notice, & fill some of the redlinks along the way. ;p )
- ♠If a DYK got attention for Borche, & the AA/FAs, whatever the hook, tho, it'd suit me.
- ♠As an aside, since it's a named car, Winged Express should be italicized. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 12:53, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- I agree that fake arm is kitsch & have italicized Winged Express. As I have suggested alternative hooks & it appears that while you prefer your original but are happy with the alternatives, I need to request another reviewer to approve the own ALT hooks.

- Comment, I think the article needs cleanup, it is very interesting and unusual overall. Szzuk (talk) 22:03, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Comment I think the content is interesting, but I agree with Szzuk that it needs cleanup. I think that should be done before linking it from the front page. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 04:45, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Comment – I'll try to do MOS cleanup and get a review in tomorrow. – Reidgreg (talk) 20:51, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
- Regarding cleanup, the articles Altered (drag racing) and Top Fuel do not uniformly apply capitalization to those terms. I went with the online sources which capitalized Top Fuel but not altered. I also added a little bit to support ALT1. – Reidgreg (talk) 03:53, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
Query: Needs a citation for his birth and death dates (which I did not spot in the online sources). Otherwise, article was new enough at time of nomination, is long enough, neutral, well-cited, and free of copyvio (Earwig scores are from a quote and proper nouns, AGF for offline source). Hooks are well-formatted, about 125–160 characters, cited, neutral and interesting. QPQ waived. – Reidgreg (talk) 03:53, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
