Yasonna Laoly

[edit]
Yasonna Laoly, the incumbent Indonesian Minister of Laws
Yasonna Laoly, the incumbent Indonesian Minister of Laws

5x expanded by MezzoMezzo (talk) and Awewe (talk). Nominated by Awewe (talk) at 12:01, 30 December 2017 (UTC).

  • Article is a 5x expansion, but requires more sourcing as there are unsourced paragraphs. Also QPQ is needed, as User:Awewe already has six. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:26, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
  • User:MezzoMezzo has not edited on Wikipedia since November 14, 2017, and User:Awewe's last edit was on January 1. Marking for closure as unsuccessful. Yoninah (talk) 23:34, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Wow, one day late after my break. I suppose there will be more opportunities in the future, but for now, are there any improvements which could be made beyond sourcing? MezzoMezzo (talk) 06:00, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
  • MezzoMezzo, welcome back. Fortunately, it's not too late, since the nomination hasn't yet been formally rejected. The big thing here is that many paragraphs don't have any inline source citation, and need at least one: these are the second paragraph under Personal life, all three paragraphs under Activism and political life, and the first paragraph under As Minister of Laws and Human Rights. There are also places where the text needs editing because it doesn't make sense as written, for example He claimed that overcrowding and bad prison condition is caused by lack of personals and high land prices which hampered constructions of new prisons. I have no idea what "personals" means in this context, unless perhaps it might be "personnel"? (It also needs copyediting in general: for example, "condition" should be "conditions" and "constructions" should be "construction".) If you're willing to tackle these issues now, the review can continue. We can sort out the QPQ issue later, if Awewe doesn't return. Please let us know. Thanks! • @BlueMoonset: Thanks so much for responding. I'll try to handle the copyedits now. The translation, from what I can tell, is machine translation from Bahasa to English; I don't do that myself, but I've tried previously and feel like that's what we're seeing there. I can go back to the source cited, though I'm not sure if that will be now or tomorrow. Regarding the unsourced lines, would removing them improve the article's standing? Or should the statements be tagged and sourced searched for instead? MezzoMezzo (talk) 03:46, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
  • MezzoMezzo, if you remove all of the unsourced paragraphs, the article will be too short to qualify for DYK. What is needed is to find sources for each of the paragraphs. Do you think you can do that? Or at least for most of them? BlueMoonset (talk) 22:06, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
  • BlueMoonset Sadly, I must say that I don't think I can do that. After searching on two separate occasions, I've only been able to find unreliable sources containing biographical information about Laoly. They're Indonesian language, which is okay, but mostly seem to be tabloid websites or Wikipedia mirrors, which isn't okay. There are numerous news stories mentioning his actions as a politician, but those bear no relations to the unsourced paragraphs in question. I wish I could have found more, but there doesn't seem to be much material out there on this man's upbringing and life pre-politics. MezzoMezzo (talk) 03:49, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
  • MezzoMezzo, thank you for trying. Unfortunately, absent reliable sources, there's nothing we can do at the present time, so I'm marking the nomination for closure. Maybe, if he continues in politics, there will be some feature articles written on him in reliable sources that contain the information wanted. It will be too late for this DYK nomination, but the article will be able to be fleshed out further when additional material is made available. If at some point the article becomes a Good Article via the WP:GAN process, then it can be renominated here at DYK. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:15, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
