Flame Style, Flame Rimmed[1] or Flame Motif pottery (火焔土器 or 火焔型土器, kaen doki or kaen-gata doki) is a distinctive style of Jōmon pottery dating back to the earliest known phase of human settlement on the Japanese Archipelago. It is distinctive through its unique, ornamental patterns. The Kaen Doki were first discovered at the Umataka-Sanjūinaba Site in Nagaoka City in 1936 during the Shōwa era.[2]
