Ship of Fools: How a Selfish Ruling Class Is Bringing America to the Brink of Revolution is a non-fiction political book written by Tucker Carlson, in which he argues that America's ruling class has failed everyday Americans. Ship of Fools was released in October 2018 before the midterm elections and is a New York Times #1 best seller.[2]

Synopsis

[edit]

Introduction: Our Ship of Fools

[edit]

Carlson introduces his thesis by applying the allegory given in Plato's Republic, in which the US ship of state has been commandeered by an incompetent crew (the current political and economic ruling class) who are contemptuous of the desires of the passengers (the citizens) and intolerant of criticism.

One: The Convergence

[edit]

Carlson notes that liberals and conservatives have traditionally kept each other balanced by arguing on opposing sides of social issues, until sometime in the 1990s, when both sides started agreeing on positions which sound progressive or patriotic, but in fact serve to foster their own political power, social prestige, and economic status.

Two: Importing a Serf Class

[edit]

Politicians started advocating non-enforcement of immigration laws, in order to increase their voting base and to depress labor rates for the benefit of employers. This to the detriment of organized labor and African Americans.

Three: Foolish Wars

[edit]

"Foreign policy experts" such as Max Boot and William Kristol used the September 11 attack as excuse to advocate US involvement in Middle East wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. These wars failed to learn the lesson of the Vietnam War and had the opposite of their stated intent, encouraging rather than eliminating the security threat from Islamic extremism.

Four: Shut Up, They Explained

[edit]

The American Civil Liberties Union has stopped defending the First Amendment right of free speech.

Five: The Diversity Diversion

[edit]

Six: Elites Invade the Bedroom

[edit]

second-wave feminism Betty Friedan The changes made by second-wave feminists did not make women happier.

Seven: They Don't Pick Up Trash Anymore

[edit]

Epilogue: Righting the Ship

[edit]
